Giant Bicycles Canada is pleased to announce that they have partnered with the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation to provide the Sprockids program to the five Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camps across Canada.

The Tim Horton Children's Foundation and Sprockids share the same value in giving children the opportunity to try new things, achieve new goals, and develop an increased sense of self-confidence. This partnership is a great way to extend that mission.

The Tim Horton Children's Foundation was established in 1974 by Ron Joyce, Co-Founder of the Tim Hortons chain, to honour Tim Horton's love for children and his desire to help those less fortunate. The Foundation delivers outcome-driven programs that are designed to change the way young people from low-income homes think about themselves and the opportunities that exist for them. Through repeated use of the skills, values and attitudes learned at camp, these young people are more likely to become caring, motivated and responsible individuals when they return to their community.

The Sprockids program was designed by Doug Detwiller, an elementary school teacher living on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Sprockids was originally developed in 1990 as a Self Esteem/Anger Management Program to help students succeed in school. Since then, Sprockids has evolved into a multi-faceted program engaging thousands of young people in the life long activity of mountain biking while teaching them the skills, values, and strategies to succeed in life. The program is now used in over 20 countries by teachers, coaches, cycling clubs, youth organizations, law enforcement agencies, and parents.

“Sprockids is all about changing the role and definition of sports in our society. Being active and having fun should be a part of everyday life. Sprockids is all-inclusive! “Nobody Sits on the Bench” in our sport. The program appeals to a large segment of young people, including those youth who would never consider themselves “athletes.” Mountain biking is all about having adventure, fun, adrenaline, and discovery. For these reasons the Sprockids program is a perfect fit with the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation” Says Doug Detwiller – Sprockids Founder.

“We are thrilled to work with the Tim Horton Children's Foundation. This is an amazing opportunity to expose kids to an activity that could fundamentally change their lives. Through the sport of mountain biking young people will have the opportunity to develop the skills, values, and strategies that will guide them throughout their lives and enable them to successfully reach their full potential.” Paul Nash, Deputy General Manager, Giant Canada.

I once worked at a sweet shop called Brant cycle in Burlington, ON. and the manager used to volunteer time to piece rickety bikes together for Timmy's camp kids. Nice to see they're getting a hookup from a friendly Giant!
