Leogang, Austria, April 12th, 2010 – Leogang is well known for its bike park and mountain bike events, but 2010 brings a new and really big hit: the UCI world cup circus visits the small Austrian town located in the countryside around Salzburg in late June. On the weekend before the Out of Bounds Festival, the UCI Downhill and Four Cross World Cup will bring the stars of the gravity sport to Leogang. Watch big names like Steve Peat (GBR), Sam Hill (AUS), Gee Atheron (GBR), Jared Graves (AUS) or Greg Minnaar (RSA) racing Leogang’s legendary “Speedster” downhill trail or battling head to head on the brand new 4X track. The long weekend from June 18th to 20th is only the launch for a three years partnership between the UCI and Leogang: World Cups in 2011 and 2012 are also already fixed.

The UCI recently approached the region Leogang Saalfelden for a possible collaboration. The negotiations went fast and well, because both sides knew that it would be a perfect fit. Leogang, which is not only well known for the Out of Bounds Festival, but also for the ongoing effort put in their bike park design and development of new offers, proved to be one of the most progressive mountain bike destinations in Europe one more time. Peter Donabauer, managing Director of the Leogang Saalfelden Tourism Association adds: "We are very happy that we were able to agree with the UCI so fast and are now named as an official venue of the UCI Downhill and Fourcross World Cup for he next three years in a row. The Bikepark Leogang will host Austria’s most important mountain bike event in 2010, 2011 and 2012. We will also put additional efforts into the integration of the Olympic discipline Cross Country from 2011 on. Not enough, also the European Championships are one of our goals for 2012.” Leogang is obviously looking into a bright near future while having the mountain bike sport at the top of their priority list.

The bike park team in Leogang can’t wait for the snow to melt and to start the preparations. The UCI is looking forward to have Leogang as a new partner of their Downhill and Fourcross World Cup. The set date in the UCI racing calendar for the Austrian tour stop stays the same, but now a never seen double feature was created. From June 18th to 27th, a unique combination of mountain bike events and competitions hits Leogang. When the World Cup circus moves on after a thrilling weekend on Monday, the Out of Bounds Festival is up to follow directly from the next Thursday on. The Out of Bounds Festival is Austria’s biggest mountain bike freeride event – including an iXS European Downhill Cup, the grand final of the European Fourcross Series as well as the legendary international dirt jump contest 26TRIX. No question, Leogang is worth a journey for sure in late June.

 roflofl, stoopid UCI
  • 7 0
Probably because they haven't hosted a WC event yet, so there will not be any press photos yet?
  • 5 1
they could of posted something from you know.. leogang?

I saw a video of their "WC" track.

I wasnt impressed.

i dont see why they cant just keep Schladming and just add Leogang. it would be better for the riders and the fans.
  • 4 0
Because Schladming is building some major slopes and a new gondola station and therefore will be unusable, its VERY simple
  • 1 0
lame, Schladming was one of my favorites....
  • 1 0
in that case schladming will be back in next eyar if theyve finished the work, all (well nearly all) the riders love it
  • 3 0
Wow, some serious stuff must have gone down at Schladming for them to move it this close to the season. Too bad, that course was so good to watch.

Edit: UCI press release says that they are holding the 2013 World Alpine champs, which means they will probably be wiping out a lot of the DH course to cut new alpine courses.

 i will miss schladming
  • 4 0
 i think everyone will Razz
  • 4 1
i think instead of doing this i think people should build a new downhill track at fortwiliam as it is the same one year after year and as said in "tipping point" by clay porter it is getting boring
  • 6 0
but its a classic..its just like the saint anne dh..both are classics..schladming was cool, but for all of u that dont know leogang..this is basicaly the whistler of europe..thats where everyone save money to go one day..im on the line!
  • 2 0
I agree... Yes, it's a pitty that schladming is out for that year, BUT leogang will be also that spectacular!!! it's a real nice track!!!
  • 3 0
For real man?? Nothing boring about Fort William at all, great event and superb track always always throws up a few surprises.

Leo Whistler of Europe buhaaha. Its like Goteborg where I live calls itslef a little London. And you are German! A German person says that about Austrian location. Well perhaps if leogang wouldnt charge same money for 4 days of riding as Portes du Soleil from Champery through Chatel to Morzine charges for a year pass, they might get more visitors so they coul improve trail infrastructure. So far it is a Brake Bump Mountain screwing you up in your bum with super high prices for everything lifts, food and accomodation.

this SUCKS! Schladming is the only real downhill track without alot of pedaling...
  • 5 0
waki that sounds just like whistler actually

I think they need to change up the resorts every 2-3 years. All the races are becoming too predictable. I want to watch racers be constantly challenged by unfamiliar trails,. It is pretty sad when they go somewhere and before the event they write it off as Sam's track or whoever.

Totaly agree with Knife. It is not Formula 1 with rich wankers that need a guarantee of good fun to get satisfied to invest so much money in it. This is the sport which essence lies in amount of variables. Racing on same tracks starts to limit the variety. Good decision IMAO
  • 1 0
downhill biking IS the formula 1 of bike racing.. lots of rich people who are never all that happy with what they're got
  • 1 1
Formula 1... I know that quote by Fabien Barel but I do not agree. If there is a car sport that you can compare to Downhill Racing World Cup it is the World Rally Cup... does not sound so good as Formula 1 but that's how it is. The only equivalent of Sam Hill in car racing is Sebastian Loeb not some Hamilton wanker. In Formula it is the car and team that does most of the work. Driver's job is to deliver the car in a reasonable manner. Quite the opposite to DH racing...

Pity that, Schlada was a "real mans" track, awesome memories of scary fast footage over rocks and roots comes to mind. I hope Leo lives up to its hype, cant wait to see WC later in yr. I only hope Sammie can rip it like he did consistently on Scladming over the last 4 yrs.
  • 1 0
 Nooo schladming gone..
Saw a article on dirt about this and saw a vid. looks like a gnarly track, sam hill could still dominate Smile
  • 1 0
Schladming was an awesome race track, but it was so beat up. The whole bottom section was covered in huge holes, and the rest of the track was pretty beat up aswell.
  • 1 0
Only the upper part of the WC DH track in Schladming will be destroyed. The lower part should be good to ride in the future.
  • 2 0
this is really nice, leogang rocks =)
  • 1 0
unbelieveable...schladming is one of the best tracks i´ve know... and leogang only sucks
  • 1 0

  • 4 0

  • 1 0
 thanks
  • 2 2
Why r they changing the location from Schladming? that was an awesome track.
  • 1 0
reason is because of the ski champs in schladming that year!!!
  • 1 0
too bad... the dh world cup final last year was so cool
  • 1 0
hopefully it will be back after the 2013 ski champs
  • 2 0
