Spectacular tricks and crazy runs at this year’s Swatch Rocket Air Slopestyle. After the Team Battle on Friday the riders needed to give their best for important points for the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour (FMB) and a price money of CHF 10’000. The winner of Swatch Rocket Air 2015 is Thomas Genon from Belgium. The event was again a success and finished without severe incidents.
The ice skating rink was sold out for the 6th edition and people were waiting for the big spectacle.
The members of the Flying Metal Crew prepare the track before the final runs.
After a crash last year causing him to not be able to ride, Szymon Godziek was ready to push his limits.
Thomas Genon, winner of last years Swatch Rocket Air getting ready for his first run.
The level at the silver level event was as high as never before. Jakub Vencl throws a perfectly extended 360 Tuck Nohander.
Same trick, other rider, other angle.
Szymon Godziek in his run which would have brought him to podium in every other edition of the Swatch Rocket Air.
The event was as breathtaking for the 9000 spectators as for the viewers of the live stream.
The first run of Thomas Genon was a banger: Cork7, 360downside whip, Backflip Bar to Tuck put him in the first position.
After a perfectly landed double backflip of Peter Henke, crashed on a 720 over the hip.
He's face tells us, Peter Henke did land the 720 in his 2nd run which puts him into 5th place.
Sam Pilgrim made it to podium in every edition of the Swatch Rocket Air so far.
Even though Sam put down a great run, he couldn't make it this year. His opponents went just a little crazier than him.
Bobby Lamirande, competing for Team North America on Friday, went big, but couldn't top Thomas Genon's score.
It's was up to Nicholi Rogatkin to overscore Genon.
Nicholi risked a lot and brought down his second run. Staying 1 point behind Tommy G couldn't stop his good mood.
Genon ended his day with a sore wrist but a happy face.
Bobby Lamirande killed it this we! I still don't realize the QUADRIPLE truckdriver !!!!!!! I thought Matt Macduff was the only guy able to do that on a massive tricksjump, but here he nailed it, and on a run !!!!! The sponsors didn't want him, but now they'll fight
FEST series continues to make me question this style of 'mountain biking' event. The FMB will have an interesting adolescence I feel as it figures out what it wants to become. I hope it caters for all... but wouldn't mind it drifting more towards what the fest guys are championing rather than effectively a bmx DJ event on 26 inch bikes. Before people get defensive I'd like to say Sam Pilgrim and Soderstrom are two of my favourite riders whose roots are obviously in skate park/DJ, but it's not the mountain biking that most of us do. Fest just appeals to me more.
This event caters to a live audience, where as fest is generally just the riders and diggers with few spectators. I love both and hope both continue to draw more attention and excitement!
