I'm a massiv Sam Hill fan, so probs to him and I hope he wins every race he enters next year:

But about Mike Jones racing injured:
I think that's really dangerous, I broke my left wrist with 16, it wasn't a bad break at all, very harmless and treatable. My dad is a orthopaedist, so after 3 weeks I couldn't take sitting around anymore, went into his office, cut off the cast and went riding. It hurt after a few minutes, but I kept trying for a few days and always put my cast on again when I came home so my dad wouldn't know.
I'm 22 now and my wrist is pretty stiff, I can only move it down a few degrees, up is better but feels weird and on some days I can't do any push ups or move it quickly.
I crashed at a race last season, I kept my hands on the bar, but over stretched the wrist a bit and couldn't even lift a glass for 3 weeks. I'm a student and had lots of exams at the time, I had tears in my eyes during every exam because writing hurt like hell (I'm left handed)
I'll have to get a wrist brace for next season because I can't afford being in that condition at the next exams, but these are super expensive and my dad's empathy is pretty low (understandable).
And even if I get one, it's pretty likely that I will have a lot of trouble using my left hand when I'm old, my dad has lot's of patients with that condition.
He sais no matter how big or little the break, bones take at least 6 weeks to heal.

So, be careful with injuries, they occur in our sport, and that's okay, if you give your body time to heal up!

Great to see Sam back on the podiums last season showing he's still at the top of his game and if 2015 doesn't go plan he can always get a job as a ventriloquist.

I have a tip for your hand problem. Try looking into Feldenkrais Therapy. It mostly involves micros movements and thinking about the movements you want to ( or should be ) able to do.

It's important to heal up, but many riders at this level push themselves and get back to racing as soon as possible. It helps having some of the best sports medics around. Look at other two-wheeled sports - motocross, motogp, road cycling. A lot of the top athletes will ride as soon as they can after injuries.

I got the same injury fell up some stairs years ago my wrist is all arthritis now .

If the "best sports medics" supported the removal of the cast, why was he doing it in the kitchen with a pair of scissors? He's a moron with more to lose than he had to gain at this point in his career...

yup you can certainly mess things up if you don't let injuries heal properly .

I removed a cast in my kitchen once. Probably not the best idea but whatever

It's been really good watching Sam come back Into form. It's hard to get to races on this side of the world and after meeting Sam in cairns this year it was so good to see someone I look up to not be a wanker. Always had time for people and only too happy to get photos etc. looking forward to early mornings with my mates next year watching him win worlds on the telly.

Sam Hill has already secured a legendary legacy to the sport. If he manages to lock down another WC 1st overall and Worlds it might be time to recognize him as greatest DH racer of all time, edging out Nico Vouilloz. Aside from statistics, his raw skill and calculated line choice's already set him apart from anyone in this era, which is the most progressive in history.

I agree. I think Rob Warner hit the nail on the head when he said that for many people "Sam Hill is downhill - rides fast, loose and on flat pedals."

Nico's 10 World Champs gold medals and Peaty's 17 World Cup wins will not be surpassed for a very long time. But Sam Hill is a one-off, arguably the greatest technical track rider of all time, just pure talent and searing pace on a bike.
