 I think it will compete for it, but the intense light/flash seems a little unnatural for me. but cheers for sharing it, and tippie is just a great ambassador to mtn biking.

 Most shots have unnatural lighting because the circumstances call for it, like this. I don't think this would be possible to pull off without the flashes due to the location being secluded from the sun during the best times of day to shoot it. It looks a bit unreal but damn, does it look amazing like that.

 No doubt. I agree with everything you said and it's an amazing shot. And a difficult shot. Without the flash it would not show the rider much at all, but nevertheless it's unnatural quality of light is what I think might keep it from POY.
