How do you choose your bikes and products? Do you favor fashion or function?

There's 0 chance everyone in this survey is being honest with themselves.

there is zero chance that ANYTHING self reported will be unbiased/honest. Ask people if they pick up their dog shit and just by asking them the question they are primed with a societal norm where they know they should and unconsciously they will upwardly bias their response to make their answer closer to the social norm. In this case, the social norm is that you should choose function over fashion and, lo and behold, almost no one says they focus on fashion. There is no real insight from self reported surveys into what people really do. Self reported surveys are essentially only good only at confirming what a the current social norm is and how strong it is for the question being asked.

This questions are all wrong, no I would not choose fashion over function.
But before I consider function I have to like the look of the bike, it has nothing to do with fashion just my own personal view on the aesthetic of the bike. If I like the look and the function suits my purpose then I part with my hard earned.
It can be the best bike in the world but if it looks like a turd I won't ride it

@DaleE: Same. Exact same helmet, one color $200, another $120? I took the $120, thank you very much. Same stem, but within say $5? I'll make it fancy and pick the color I want.
