This round started with the usual early morning Tim Horton’s session. Bags packed to spend a couple nights in Pemberton but to our misfortune/delight, the weekend threw a gigantic curveball, finally rolling us to a stop in Whistler on some incredible valley trails.

Dexter eyes up the next section of trail.

The bright M9 stood out well in a forest of dark greens and browns.

The valley trails surrounding Whistler's Bike Park are often overlooked. Maybe at some point you promised yourself you’d hike around and experience them but became caught up in the bike park.

Green green green. Moss carpet as far as the eye could see.

There’s so much to see in Whistler even if you aren’t there for the trails. The surroundings are worth the trip. Carpets of moss cover the forest floor, it’s as if someone took a rake and dragged a proprietary line through the dirt. This is due to the nature of the forest in the valley; the extremely damp conditions allow incredible moss growth. Time to focus on the riding, which did not disappoint. Being my first time exploring outside of the bike park, I couldn’t believe what I’d missed. Steep, loose, and fast, the adjectives that make up the best trails. The riding was spectacular, lots of different line choices and dirt to play with. After a long day of hiking the trails, a lakeside salmon barbecue and a couple of beers was the best way to unwind.

Coming down over the rock roll.

Thanks for watching, and look out for our third episode soon! A very special thanks to GoPro, Intense Bicycles, Easton Components, Bell Helmets, Fox, and Outdoor Gear Canada for supporting this season.

There are lots of really good trails in Whistler Valley. You can buy the guidebook at the bookstore

reviews.mtbr.com/whistler-mountain-biking-guide-review

The biggest bike you need on the valley trails would be a 6X6inch bike. Even the one in the vid you don't need a DH bike, full face and Leight brace for. Most of the trails involve some pedaling.

Yea and you can't really shuttle anything. ..danimal I guess but it's short Oh and there's always the trails which you peel off of the bike park to get to. Get loose on them.

can anyone tell me where these trails are? Im staying in Whistler for the first time this summer and have just been riding the bike park.. Id love to try this kind of trail but I've ventured off on my own twice now to find something and have just rode around for hours and not found anything! Where do I go??

This is a great resource: www.trailforks.com/canada/whistler Not 100% up to date but it's got a lot of info for all of BC. I used it when I started riding the North Shore mountains and it helped me out a lot.

If you have an iphone, buy the 'trailmapps' app for Whistler and pretty much all the trails are on there with gps integration. Extremely accurate and reasonably comprehensive.

Or get Brian Finestone's Mountain Biking in Whistler's guidebook

www.trailcheck.in works on any phone with a browser and gps. Not as slick as the traillmapps app but it also works on any other device with a browser such as your laptop/pc.

The trail is called Hey Bud! Fantastic trail but you dont need a DH bike. It is an absolute bitch to climb upto but worth it for the ride down. Just ask any local and they will tell you

Love Whistler, but this is a very poor example of trails outside of the park, this trail is poorly constructed, rutted out and not rideable up which lends itself to erosion and really bad for spring run off in a highly sensitive area. Hiking up the mountian for 1/2 hr to take 3min of go pro down does nothing good for the sport or trail progression. You can cut trials like this but take considerable maintenance. Sorry for neg prop but Whistler is known more for sharp rock and killer tech XC outside the park. I feel this is bad ad for Whistler to international community because there is so much more up there that is done right. I feel a trip is in order to the NSMBA trail construction 101. Yikes I hope you understand keep ridd'in

looks fun but I wouldnt consider trails down blackcomb a valley trail. theres a shit load more away from the ski hills.
  • 3 0
you have to pedal up and its not in the resort boundary so i'd include it with the other valley trails -i've seen some new building in this area lately so looks like more steep mossy loamy trails are coming! Just like snowboarding, come for whistler, stay for blackcomb and the rest of the vallley

are you saying that the bottom of blackcomb is not in the rmow?
  • 1 0
He mean the bottom of Blackcomb is not part of Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort, but it is part of RMOW. However you need to pedal up some roads use by the mountain and last year we had some report of people having to turn around as the mountain doesn't like us to use their roads without permission. I'll say just go for an evening mission Wink
