Riding a steep pump track

Most pump tracks are built on flat ground, but some of us have, shall we say, "vertical opportunities."

At Lee Likes Bikes, we've built dozens pump tracks on flat lots, but when I moved into my home above Boulder, CO, we were given a cool challenge:

• How do we build a track on a steep hillside?

• Can we do it with endemic dirt and hand tools?

• How do we make it drain -- without any pipes or other materials?

Thanks to James Hall, the track came out great.

• The straights work along the contour.

• Most elevation is gained and lost in the turns.

• The track drains well. Heck, it survived last fall's floods.

• The track requires a ton of skill and power, but it's super fun!
