GAMUT USA is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of Point One Racing, a bicycle component design and manufacturing company noted for producing unique and innovative mountain bike performance parts. The agreement will compliment GAMUT’s existing component offering, and better serve the needs of GAMUT and Point One riders worldwide.

United by friendship and a commitment to designing quality parts for world-class athletes and enthusiasts, GAMUT and Point One Racing form a natural partnership between two Rider Owned Companies who believe improving the mountain bike experience is goal one.

Bringing Point One in under the Gamut brand is a great move for all involved. Both companies bring unique components and proven designs, while Gamut has the ability to help improve the production process, distribution and customer support,” said Juan Graziosi, partner and co-founder of Gamut.

Point One’s lead designer and co-founder Jimmy Amaral will stay on with GAMUT as a product designer and “I’m stoked to be teaming up with a group of guys that I respect, and who share the same dedication to mountain biking. Now I have the freedom to focus on product development and prototyping while the rest of the Gamut team can work on making sure those products get to the riders,” said Amaral.

About GAMUT: In 1999 Juan Graziosi, teamed up with his maker, Ed, on a father-son project making chain-guides for personal use. Friends and riders took notice and he began selling them at local races to cover his own race fees. As interest grew, so did the idea to create a rider-owned company. In 2003, older brother Mateo and longtime friend Mike were added to the mix to help get things organized. One year later, Gamut USA was born. The four share a passion for making intuitive, high quality products that take the hassle out of installation while delivering on performance, simplicity, and aesthetics.

About Point One Racing: Point One Racing was created from the belief that we could design, engineer, manufacture, market and sell superior bicycle components. Founded in 2008 with a history of mountain bike gravity racing, we have developed and continually improved upon our products to withstand and exceed the demands of the sport since day one.

Thanks so much for chiming in and I really hope you can repair the damage done to dealers and customers like me. Something was going terribly wrong at Point One and it will take guys as awesome as you to potentially fix it.

Stoked on this, and judging by the comments I think ill buy a pair of point one pedals for my next ride!

po1nt is the shit! why would you need to call or email them when their pedals never break
  • 7 0
Or at least you'd better hope they never break. Those guys never responded to emails, phone calls, or my dealer inquiries. They always made great products though and Gamut has always treated their customers right. This should be a great partnership.

Sorry but i've seen 4-5 spindles shorn off in two years, including one from a mellow XC rider. And in some cases it took over two months to correspond to get warranty or replacement service parts from a company that is less than an hour's drive from us.
Also, it's kind of hard for you, the rider, to buy the pedals if the bike shop can't even get in touch to order them, right??

That being said, I have never had a problem dealing with Gamut, and they seem quite aware of the issues (Hi Guys! Thanks for chiming in!) and everyone who's pedals didn't blow up still swears by them.

So if we can get Point One pedals with Gamut branding and customer service, everybody happy! I love being able to sell local products, and long as I can communicate with the company. This acquisition seems like a big win-win.

My p1 pedals have done 3 years of crashes British weather, jumps, downhill, 80 mile day rides and are no worse than the day I fitted them, never even serviced / lubricated?! I've ruined EVERYTHING else on the market over the years but these are the best... Hats off boys!

Great, now go make more Podium 2 pedals!

Hopefully this will mean that Gamut's excellent customer service and support will flow over to Point One's products. Loved my Podiums, but after what can only be described as the worst customer service I've ever experienced in the industry (and I worked in and managed shops for 10 years), I felt obligated to sell them off and go with another brand. I'm sorry, but no matter how awesome your products are, you have to answer phone calls and emails. Juan is a great guy, hopefully that's in the past.

 I agree completely

lol. When I read the news I thought exactly the same thing.

Hahahaha exactly! Would never recommend Point One product based on this kind of stuff alone.

"Answer phone and email? nah maybe next month..."

my little bearings got destroyed and my local shop couldn't fix them, so I emailed jimmy and I sent the pedals out to get rebuilt. a week later I had fresh bearings in my pedals. point one's stuff rules

Just a little info, Point 1 Racing was run and made by 2 guys who also have full time jobs. Made only a few units at a time in an aerospace machine shop. Not returning calls or responding to emails is not excusable by any means but there is not a full time tech support person sitting on payroll like most major companies have. I am stoked on the merger with Gamut USA and excited for more super innovative California made products to come.

I don't often comment but I am blown away by the comments on this article. A couple years ago I was driving through the San Jose area on my way north happened to give Point 1 a call and was able to pick up pedals and a limited edition DM stem about 15min later. Their products are amazing and my experiences with the company have been fantastic. Pedals are as good as new over 4yrs later!

Point 1 has some beautiful stuff. Love the split second stem line.

I have to chime in... No relation to point1 at all- I managed to break the built in dust cover off of my pedal spindle. Totally my own fault, but I was honest about it, and had no receipt since the pedals were a couple years old. Point1 took my address, and had two brand new spindles and new hardware on my doorstep within a week for free! Probably some of the BEST customer service I've ever had. Anyway, sh!t happens (just look at Evil), but it sounds like Point1 will recover!

Sweet! Good to see 2 norcal brands come together!

I hope this doesn't affect getting replacement parts for my new Podium pedals.
  • 5 5
yup, cause they probably will need them. hopefully you'll now actually be able to get in touch with them though!
  • 3 1
As a dealer i made payment to Jimmy and NEVER got the parts until today...!
  • 4 2
I feel sorry for all of the dealers that got screwed and left hanging with Jimmy and Point 1. Just one quick look at their Facebook page and you see the long list of comments left from customers and dealers asking where their parts are, why there's no correspondence, and if they've gone out of business or something. Its pretty obvious from the props and comments on this thread that you were either "in" with Jimmy and the gang or you were just another irritating customer. I know lots of guys who got nothing but five star service from them but most of us got hung out to dry. It's too bad because their products are second to none.

They invented the pedal design that has since been copied by pretty much everyone. Props for that alone. Let's face it, if you have to work full time, checking your Facebook or email isn't always a priority. Plus if your product breaks you complain. If it doesn't break you shut up and ride.

I've been trying to get hold of a set of Point 1 Podiums for a year now, maybe now I might be able to.

So the company who makes the worst guide bought the company that makes the best pedals? RIP Po1nt
