To kick off the year Josh Tofsrud from All Gravity Series/BikeHub hosts "
Hubapalooza" in Spokane, WA. This event includes two full days of racing and riding, with free camping on site. It's a recipe for the best weekend of the year.
Day one starts off with a downhill race, that ran a new course for this year. From whoops, rut corners, rocks, and jumps the course kept riders guessing.
Following the DH race is the Gravity Jump Jam and Best Whip Contest. Riders on every type of bike dropped in for mega whip trains with multiple riders in the air simultaneously on each jump. It was madness.
As the sun was setting, the mini slalom race began. With free entry, a simple bracket system, and single race elimination, riders went checkers or wreckers to get the W.
Day 2 starts early with the "
People's Enduro". Beginner and Sport class raced 3 stages while the Expert and Pro classes raced 4. Stage 1, famously known as "The Zipper" challenged even the fastest pros with its steep and technical rock lines. While stage 4 is the complete opposite as it points you down "Hollywood" with 25 machine built tabletop jumps. The course variety is truly unique.
As the enduro was wrapping up, the second downhill race of the weekend was kicking off. This course uses the famous line over "Gerfmore", a mandatory gap drop for all expert and pro riders that will definitely put your stomach in your throat the first time you peer off of it.
From the quick recap above, you would think that the whole weekend was all serious race business. But that's not what Hubapalooza is about. Ask any of the riders that traveled from all over the northwest, Nevada, California, Colorado and British Columbia, and they will tell you about the good times they had with good people. Spokane isn't known as a mtb mecca, and that makes the people here a bit different. Instead of wanting to hide away all the best trails, they invite you to drop in behind them and see the line the locals ride. There is an enormous amount of work that goes into making all of these events happen in two days, and if it weren't for the passionate riders/trail builders/people here, it wouldn't happen. Huge thanks to all of you who helped, and to all who rode. We love you.
Join us next year for all the good times!
