I understand how the 70ft. front flip won (should have by a long shot) but why the f*ck did the Godfrey triple backflip do so poorly especially against Godziek's tsunami backie that has been done so many times before... on dirt bikes... and even done by the same Godfrey kid but with an extra backflip added in...
Pinkbike members, you should be ashamed. That is ignorance at the highest level. At least the award went to the deserving trick at least. I would be embarrassed if Godziek's trick won. OK technically the one Godfrey threw was a "superman double backflip" but the extension was just as insane, not to mention the kid rarely rides a mountain bike. He deserves way more credit than he gets. That jump he did the triple on was way gnarlier than what most MTBers hit in their lifetime and they did it just for the hell of it.
PS Godziek's trick is still insane but compared to what else is going on, it shouldn't have been close.
Yeah you're right, one is 200lbs heavier than the other... but forgetting the fact that tsunami flipping a dirtbike is way more gnarly than on a mtb, Godfrey did the same trick but in a double backflip with a mtb. Pinkbke is equivalent to a popularity contest in high school. It really doesn't matter outside of its own little bubble of chatty Kathy's.
Saw Sam Hill do the same at the US open in 09'; when he was on top. If you saw that course or videos of it you knew it was insane to get down! Going tire-less is scary for most of us for sure, but seems to be a very doable task for the big guns.
Anti Squat is achieved by the control of chain tension and is built into bikes to help counter pedalling forces. So, of course rear suspension performance is affected by the chain. Its designed that way.
Yes this is probably how it worked for him. Yea... I am sure he just sat there on his arse, making suspension do the job, freed from truly enormous force that clutch rear mech resists the suspension squat. that makes a wonderful internet hypothesis. But... if for some unexplainable reason, by a chance, he tried to stay on top of stuff by launching from stuff, then pumping backsides, into turn, pump the turn, focus on keeping momentum going - then lack of chain tension would play against him... So please hand it on plate for some company to say that their revised suspension system isolates rear mech forces hahaha
The clutch derailleur adds a very small force that effectively has a similar effect as a damper in the compression direction. It is however worth noting that compared to the dampening in the actual shock, it is many many times smaller in effect, almost non-existent!
Xyphota - nice to hear someone talking forces, yes... do you think that if only not the infamous stiction in Fox suspension, Neko could have won? Fox Sticiton must be generating some Newtons there! or maybe not...
More likely it's proof that it's a mental game as much as a physical one. Lots of guys lay down fast practice runs but can't put it together when the clock is running. Losing his chain removed most of the pressure to perform.

"I'm on the lift all day
And I don't have no chain"
Szymon was so close
this for rampage trick over the canyon
