slow mo, lots of short pans edited to the max, and the right background music can make any boring thing look cool I expect the next video to be EXTREME OLD DUDES WITH WALKERS on groomed you don't need a fat bike a normal mtn bike works fine

Groomed trail can be very firm in 10" of snow or softer due to 200"+ of snow. This was the latter. Fat tires were very required and very fun! I recommend going there and trying it!

I agree, once you have a trail packed and groomed you might as well be on a regular mountain bike. 2.5 tires at 15-20psi work suprisingly well on packed snow.

finally video showing a rider using a fatbike for its designed use. This type of season groomed biking trails, back country fire road missions and early and late season single track riding, really is the only reason to own a fatbike bike. Which is fantastic for some people who have that. Im excited the idea of literally being able to make a new trail every time it snows. The options and creativity of the groomer is essentially limitless. With the right support and terrain this type of riding could be insanely fun. I can see die hard MTB'ers living in such areas, slowely coming around to the idea of fat biking. Even with a group of friends, 1 sled and a groomy thing, could make for a pretty epic season of winter biking.

I ride 2.4" on a rigid 29-er as my dedicated snow bike.
In the past 8 yrs, I can count on one hand the number of days my fadbiking mates have been able to ride when I couldn't.
Usually, the majority of packing down is from snowshoers/hikers, so it ain't the best..

I reckon the riding would be 10x easier if trails were groomed (imagine a soft, snowy bikepath) - but I'll never know thanks to the discrimination against mtbs on those trails.

If I had powder like that to board in, I'd leave my bike at home... Sadly, I long for good snow like that. I don't think Mammoth is going to get pounded on this year... again!

same here in whistler dude. West not getting anything this year. East coast on the other hand!!!
  • 1 0
Funny, I was just looking at plane tickets and hotels for Whistler, but noticed you guys aren't getting much snow either....! I guess more days at the motocross track then...

I stayed away from fatties the first few years they were coming out. Then I rented one a few times with a friend in Wisconsin and upper Michigan and found out how much fun they were! Will I trade in my regular mtb? No. But they are a fun way to stay in riding shape in the winter and a completely different riding experience. And no you're not gonna have an easy time riding a normal mtb on those trails. If you jump into the snow on the side of the trail you will sink to your chest probably and skinny tires will sink on that trail. Fatties stay on top. I know from experience.

Sure is a lot of hate for fat bikes here! You guys should RIDE ONE before you pass judgment. I agree on the slo-mo though - really, do we need to have slow motion grabbing a shovel and putting on goggles? I also rode 2.3 or 2.5" tires on snow for years but 4"+ works so much better! NO comparison

Sorry cant go riding my fat bike as the trail has not been groomed?
  • 7 1
Best part about a fatty is how any cool places you can ride it! Groomed is just 1 ( very fun ) option but you can go a lot if other places too Smile

SouthhudsonIT, in Marquette Michigan up in the U.P. they have a great snowbike trail system where they have some sweet bermy trails! A ton of fun! I know fatties are a bit of a novelty but to anyone that hasn't tried one give it a try. You might actually be surprised. Experiment with your tire pressure a little and go ride.

I'm sorry, but if you choose to ride a bike in conditions like that, instead strapping on the boards and pointing'em straight down through the pow and trees, you're a twat.

 SlodownU

I thought you would be out riding your bike, oh I mean strapping your boards on and pointing 'em with all that snow back east, instead of watching videos?
I went skiing today at Grand Targhee and now I'm going for a fat bike ride. When it's a powder day I ski powder and we get a lot of them since we average 500" a year, I also get just as many days on my fat bike now too. Best of both worlds. ; P

thorzoe, since I'm not 12 and have a real job, I have to wait until after work and the weekends.
  • 5 0
Yeah, me too. I get to ski and mtn bike for my job. Going on 25 yrs now.
  • 3 1
Thanks for the kind wordsSmile some of us see it the other way around Wink
  • 2 1
there is only one twat here..

LOL the foot down around the corner in slow motion looked like a joke. What you can't risk falling in the snow for a good shot? Or better yet try to hold on to your 4" tires around a shaped corner?? I like fat bikes, this video sucks.

XC lid and winter goggles for skiing - must be #Fatduro

I rode a fat bike for the first time last season down here in oz on the cross country ski trails. It was a lot of fun and,and i saw more wildlife than i would have normally.Unfortunately my resort is within a national park so you cant go off piste on your sled to make your own trails(unless its 2 am in the morning and you get sidetracked coming back from the pub! :-)Fat bikingwas a good option for school holidays when the mountain was packed with kids. Also the cardio workout is phenomenal, riding at altitude is bloody hard work, and after a season of it going back to the coast meant much less demanding climbs with the added fitness-win win in my books!.

Who needs brown pow when they have the real white stuff!

I learned to board up at Targhee. Freaking love that place. A quick hike up Mary's on a clear day earns you the best view of the Tetons. So much snow. Also the only place I ever hit 40mph on dirt on a mtn bike near the bottom of the resort service road one summer. Targhee FTW!
  • 5 4
Because you need a fat bike to ride on groomed snow haha! We ride on groomed snow all the time around here on 2.3s and have no problems with traction whatsoever. And yeah being from the midwest why the hell would you ride a bike instead of a board or ski's at nice resort such as this?!
  • 2 0
Seems to me that if you had a control on the sled that could shift the weights side to side (and therefore tilt the roller in the snow), you could start to build in some fun berms
  • 1 0
I actually rode up there a couple weeks ago and the resort put a lot of work into their trails but it was not nearly as fun as grabbing my board and riding the mountain. I love mountain bikes a little more than snowboarding but snowboards way more than fat bikes.

We could have solved world hunger by now if people dedicated as much time to it as they do hating on fat bikes. Don't have one, don't want one... yet still enjoyed the video.
  • 6 1
 Oh hey Slow Mo.
  • 10 6
For cereal though...this vid should have been 2 mins max! And I have no further desire to ride a ridiculous looking bike on some snow when there is a chairlift and a mountain to slide down... #f*ckgroomed bikes are better on dirt!
  • 4 2
I will say that Targhee is an amazing place just about any time of year! Summer DH is like your own private resort and the pow is hard to beat even on a shitty year!
  • 4 0
Oh yeah? When you coming back to visit mofo?
  • 2 0
this spring dawg!!! Bham trails are insane year round, but I miss my tetons too! When we going to the desert???
  • 2 0
Fat bikes seem like a good cheap alternative to a snowmobile for getting my skis to the skintrack. But real snow is for bases and edges.
  • 3 0
I own a fat bike, I want to hate it, but god damn that thing is a blast to ride in the snow.
  • 4 2
If yer gonna groom the shit, I can't see 5" wide flywheels being all that necessary.
  • 3 1
Genius! A lot better idea than electronic shifting.
  • 5 2
 Yeah Evan! Sweet edit

Can't even afford XO1 on the bike I use all the time...

This had so many slo-mo shots in it that it started to make me nerveous.
  • 1 0
This is a sign of the times for mtn biking, I'll give it that.
  • 1 0
Id rather snowboard than do that in the snow to be honest
  • 2 1
 Thanks!
