I would think it would be ok just dont run the shock to stiff or it will stress the framer alot just run it wiht pressure so you dont bottom it out Cook

The 06/07 trance would work well..not the 08..they lightened it up so much that it is more XC then burly.

get the reign, same design but geared more for freeride.

My wife has a small Trance that I was kind enough to upgrade with a U-Turn Pike to make it more slopestylish for the days when I sneak it out of the house. It is pretty rad for that. It is the older (2 years old) frame. I'd think twice about anything bigger than 4 feet on that bike. I'd be weary of doing the same with the new ones 'cause they're so damned light! Also consider headtube angle - Trance is a snappy, quick steering bike and in downhill situations would kick your ass if you weren't paying attention - I know from experience on the wife's bike.

You can use the Trance for dirt jumps, as it handles well and has room to move around while in the air. You should definately not use a trance for 12 foot drops. It will certainly bottom out and you will have serious risk of breaking the frame. It is designed as a XC/All Mountain bike. The Trance's drop size limit has been said to be around 4.5ft.
If you want to do freeride get a Reign X or Glory 8.

i had a 06 trance 14.5" frame and i hit 20 foot jumps and probly like 8 foot drops no problem. the bike never had issues, i was just scared of going bigger. (i have a 08 reign now and LOOOOOVvvvveee it for everything)

ive got a question, ive got a stock 2008 trance x1, its got an f series 120 mm fork, would i be able to put a 140 or maybe even a 160 mm fork to make it more aggressive or would it screew with the geometry of the bike and stuff

I am also thinking of doing this when my new Trance X0 arrives, either a Float RLC or a Talas RLC. It shoud be fine and might even make the bike a tad more friendly on the downhills.

140mm should be fine....160mm would be overkill and might void the warranty on the frame.

Is 14.5" the xs frame ?

yea 14.5 is the extra small its the smallest frame they make for the trance. i had a lot of air in the rear shock (i weigh about 160 and i had about 250 psi in the shock) so it basically was like an STP that cushioned the big hits. i miss that bike so much it was awesome
