My 2001 ac1. Probably got more on it in parts than its really worth but still love it! Fox all the way with doss dropper, talas 110/140 ctd and float rear shock- all remote
Hey everyone, New to the forum and fairly new to the MTB world! I recently bought my first "serious" mountain bike, a Giant AC and have loved reading through this thread.
So far I've changed the bars and pedals and have ordered a new rear shock Hydraulic brakes will be next and I'm shopping around for a fork. I think the bb needs replacing too, does anyone know the dimensions?
Thinking about building up my old AC-1 frame as a park bike. Would a 200x57 shock with a 170 fork be too much for the frame? I know the shock would need to be mounted on the front travel setting.
Here's a pic of it when I stupidly had a full on DH fork mounted:
I just finished rebuilding my 2001 XTC AC1 that was in the back of my garage collecting dust for about 10 years. I tore the entire bike down, regreased every bearing, inspected cleaned, fixed or replaced every part on the bike. Saturday was my first trail ride in a decade. It was fantastic!
Hi, Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding rear shock mounting hardware for the AC1? I blew my original RockShox Pro Delux and bought a Fox Float RP23 to replace it. My LBS has been sitting on it for close to 3 weeks now. Is there anything off the shelf I can order? What are the key measurements I need to find something? Thanks.

All the info you require is in early posts on this thread, if I get a chance I'll take a look later but just start with page 1 and click through and you'll find all the specs, recommendations, and hardware suppliers listed. Welcome to the thread!

Nice rig for an older build, welcome to the thread. And yes, this frame was never intended for more than a 160mm fork max.
Well after 15 years the time has come to upgrade and the call of a 650b frame was too much. I've stripped the drivetrain and brakes off the AC to get the new frame running for now but when I get some free cash the plan is to upgrade the new Lapierre to all XT 11 speed gear and get the AC back running as a loaner for mates that want to come riding.

Trust me the Lapierre is a bad choice for 27.5. I sold mine frame only after shocks (3) were all repaired/replaced and even a fox couldn't stop the frame demolishing shocks- this was on trails my AC was eating for years. I have the wheels and groupset and was waiting to see a good sale on CRC. I'm looking either at Scott or Specialised but never buying Lapierre again

Ahh well too late now I've already built it and I'm riding it so time will tell. Destroying rear shocks was not one of the issues I came across when I was researching the frame.
