Thanks. Good to know. I was leaning towards the air shock anyway.

and is this the correct size headset for a 2018 alloy demo?

You can save yourself this, as the effect of the reach extension is negated by the higher headset.

I've just bought a 2018 Demo 8 1 Alloy. I will only ride it 5-10 times a year at bike parks. I'm not going to go too wild with mods but have been looking at getting either a Float X2 or a progressive link. The cost of the shock isn't too far off the link. What do you guys recommend?

Look at page 78 in this thread.

I'll adjust the stanchions in the triple clamps and remove a headset spacer to maintain original HA and stack height whilst still increasing the reach and FC.

Has anyone tried fitting the above headset? Is the insertion depth ok?

Hello guys, I would also like to buy a new demo. Unfortunately, a 450lb spring is installed on the Rockshox shock. Do I need special tools to press out the damper bushings? or can I change the spring without tools. Otherwise I would have to order tools. Thanks for the help

You can change the spring without specialist tools. You will need allen wrenches to remove the shock from the bike. Loosen the preload on the spring. then there is a lock ring around the bottom that you remove with a pick. At that point the whole spring will come right off. There are some good videos on YouTube explaining how to swap springs.

Hey guys would be great to collect some input on the position… so I’ve been tinkering around with my 2013 s-works demo 8 and made a couple prototype to teat fitment to mount a steering damper onto my demo had quite a few showa steering damper laying around from my MX days ( been using them for ages since) kinda love how they works and decided to smack one onto the demo since they are collecting dust after seeing it on a dh bike on youtube or somewhere can’t rmb…. i’m really liking the current prototype setup as the headset seats directly into the mount and straight to the frame no bolts or anything and made it pretty flush only and doesn’t raised much ( this is just revision 1) … but ain’t really sure if thats ok as it rises the headset about 1mm…

what do you guys think about it? Open to suggestions and input… currently i have the prototype for under the headset to mount the steering damper and damper to fork crown… still waiting on a few other prototype to finish printing as soon as there is an time opening (as my small tiny printing biz is on backorder for materials) so gotta finish all paid project first be i can burn anytime on mine…

which instead of mounting it under the headset its going around the lip of the headset and held in place with a pinch bolt or should i figure out another way to mount it onto the headtube?
YES i am aware 3D is plastic is not strong enough to for the damper thats why its just for TEST FITMENT ONLY…

once i’m sure which i want to go with i would print them in Titanium but there is options for stainless or aluminum too but for myself it will be titanium

As for the control attachments currently i’ve only came up with mount it to the fork’s upper crown bridge, or under the direct mount stem or do a specific cut out around the dm stem or just use a adapter clamp to mount it on the handle bar?

**of cos i’m not looking to make it into a biz as it is FOR MY OWN USE so i will not be sending the files to anyone… as we know there will be people saying its not tested like factory does, blah blah blah blah… so to avoid the BS i will not be sending to anyone**

if anyone still is actually interested i should be able to make more but as of now i’m only doing it for my own use and the i did my own testing… making 1 of cos is not for free....
also if you are actually looking to get 1...

I repeat i am doing it FOR MY OWN USE ONLY…

The Setup i like...

Alternative
Mount with pinch bolt over the headset instead of headset sitting on it

Under Direct Mount Stem
