hey guys, so I just purchased a 2012 demo 8 I for $4000. then i saw the 2013 carbon demo 8 I online. Just wondering is the 2013 demo 8 i going to be the same price as the 2012 model? If its similarly priced i am going to return the bike and wait for the carbon version.

Pretty sure the home page said 6900 for the sworks, 5000ish for the base carbon model.

i don't know about the demo I but the 2013 aluminum frame went up from 2650 to 2750. also the base carbon seems really disappointing for the price. 6600 for the build and it comes with elixir 5's and the boxxer rc. also the weight savings are extremely minimal. we're talking a few ounces here.

Never gonna happen. Specialized is pricing it way above the 9.9 to say "our bike must be better since it costs more".
I'm not gonna lie, Specialized produces some serious technology in their bikes, but I personally am never going to buy one of their bikes unless it's at a good discount.

Seems like an easy decision, unless I'm missing something.

My theory is that Spec - and Trek - don't want to make a lot of carbon DH frames just yet, and thus keep prices high and volume low. SC obviously is comfortable to push as many out as possible, and thus are keeping their price similar to high end alum frames.

I like parts of your theory, that they are making them high priced in low volumes, to make them seem more "elite".
The way I see it, they are making their prices higher and higher to be better than the other guys. And those of us who fall for the trick spend (theoretically) pay way more than they should. It would seem that this would elevate bike prices in the future rather than lower them.
