So im interested to hear what people have to say , Feedback from users specifically, on what they think is the best size front ring to use with a 1x10 or 1 x 11 for that matter if you happen to have one! I have been hearing lots of noise but nothing from actual users! Looking forward to hearing from you Smile

Raceface narrow wide got incredible reviews everywhere. I've got my 30t version on the way

+1 on the RaceRace narrow wide. I have a 30t on my Remedy and no dropped chains yet. I'm also running a blackspire stinger and a shadow plus rear derailleur.
The size of the ring depends on your fitness and type of trails you usually ride. If you never drop it into the granny gear, get the same ring you ride on all day. If you drop it into the granny, get a smaller ring up front.

Depends on your terrain. Around me I do some dh and park, and some pretty flat trails. Im running a 1x9 with a 36, with 11-34 out back. If you're climbing anything over a few minutes or too steep, it's smarter to get a 30 or 32 tooth ring.

I use a 32, it gets me up anything in Ontario pretty well and I find I have little issue going fast on the downs as by the time I can spin it out I should be pumping anyway. I use the same setup for XC and Park on the same bike (NS Soda) Takes a bit of getting used to riding without a granny but makes you stronger in the end. I'd go for a 30t if you were doing steeper, extended climbs for sure though.

32t RaceFace on my Remedy! Shadow+ XTR, 1x10 11-36 ftw. I have never dropped a chain and still have plenty of gears for where I live.

Wolftooth 30t on a 34lb. Firebird. Had it for about 5 months now with no drops or issues whatsoever. Its also small enough so it clears rocks and hasn't hit anything yet. Works great for where I ride. Dropped a little weight losing the front derailleur too.

Depends on cassette. But 28 or 30....

If you actually want to go fast downhill you will most likely want a minimum of a 32t unless using a unique cassette.

Wolftooth 30t with a 11-36cassette works well for me. I run a type 2 derailuer and no chain retention device, no dropped chains since switching. I ran a 32t with a 12-36 before and it wasnt bad either. It was a Renthal ring though and would drop the chain unless there was a guide on it.

The beauty of 1X is how quickly you can switch out chain rings depending on where you're riding that day

I ride a Carbon Nomad with XX 1x10 set up. Running an E Thirteen chain device up front with an E Thirteen Ring. 11x36 casette with a 36 ring up front. This is fine for most sessions but I also have a 32t for epic mountain days. As said, so easy to swap its not an issue.

I have X01 with a 32t chainring. With the 10-42t cassette can comfortably climb for extended periods and attack short steep stuff with enough legs going back down.

Cant go too far wrong with a 32...

34t

no problems doing 3-4hr rides with 4500+ ft of climbing..

anything lower than 34:36 doesn't have enough torque for punchy tech climbs..I usually ride 34:34 and save the biggest cog for long grinds when my legs are blown out..

force yourself to ride taller gearing for a while and see how much better shape you get in..its human nature to take the easy way out so when you have low gears you're going to use them...you would be surprised what you can get away with when you dont have those easy gears to bail you out...after a few weeks you wont miss them..
