Hi all, i have just purchased a 2015 Giant Reign 2, Fitted as standard is a 160mm RockShox Monarch DebonAir RT. Now I'm around 14st in weight, and around 5,10ft in hight. I took the reign out yesterday for its first ride, ive noticed I'm bottoming out the rear shock. I stopped half way through my ride to increase the PSI, i put in around 200PSI in the end but I'm still nearly bottoming it out on the bigger hits... even so much at one point i sunk my pedals into the ground pretty hard! Any suggestions to stop this? Also any reign riders out there, what PSI you put in your RockShox Monarch DebonAir RT??
You should run the shock at the pressure that gives you about 30% sag. Then as you get used to the bike you can adjust the pressure slightly to suit your riding style and preference.
I wont explain because there wil be hundreds of tuturials on the internet that will explain it better than i can.
I demoed a 2015 Giant Reign and was bottoming out at 200psi as well when I was expecting it wouldn't. It seems this bike needs more pressure, so follow what StraightLineJoe says.
+1 with SLJ on setting it for ~30% sag and see how it rides. If it rides nice on small bumps but still bottoms too hard, add spacers to reduce the volume.
While I was buying a Trance on the weekend, the sales guy said he was 160lb on a Reign 1 and using near max PSI in the Monarch + Debonair, so they do take higher pressure than normal air cans to get the same amount of sag, but once you adjust the volume it should ramp up nicely.
I'm also riding the 2015 Reign 2. Wasn't impressed with the shock either. May try pumping it up to the 300 psi mark. It's showing 30% sag at 260psi and I'm around 15st but when riding it tends to go through all the travel and I've experienced some similar pedal strikes. Hopefully more psi helps.
With a debonair what you guys need is to reduce the air volume to make the shock more progressive.
Unfortunately the red bands/ spacers are hard to find so if you remove the can chop up some inner tubes to make some bands up. Clean them and fit them under the air sleeve. Electrical tape would probably work too. Or gorilla tape. How tos are easy to find.
I'm riding a transition patrol and found similar issues. I'm 5'8", 12 stone rider and am running around 160 psi (iirc) with the can stuffed with some tube. This allows 35% sag with good sensitivity and plenty of support and ramp up. I think its better to play with volume and lower pressure then the other way round. Max pressure would no doubt kill very quickly.
Does anybody know how to increase the high speed compression? Is the shim stack adjustable? Mines M/M tune, and I bottom it HARD even when running at 35% sag.

230PSI @ 215 pounds
Why not dial in your air pressure before taking the damper apart? see comments above yours - you may need to add spacers to reduce the volume, which should reduce your bottom-outs.
Ya, read before posting should be mandatory. Would anybody recommend putting a few cc of oil instead of buying spacers?
I've heard the negative-spring equalizer thingy may get blocked if you add more oil. If you have a Debonair, you can remove the outer sleeve and add spacers there. Some people use strips of tire tube. Might have been mentioned in an earlier post...

?? and you have a proper SAG ?
i'm about 74kg (naked) = 163lbs and i'm pressurizing it to 240psi...

Yep...150lbs here and around 210psi with two volume spacers.
