Tyres, then a dropper post if you have the money. The ardents that come on the bike are only single compound, so something with a thicker sidewall and triple compound like the new Nobby Nics.

With the frame that the Stance has, with some sizes you can't slam the seatpost into the frame, so an externaly routed post like a Fox DOSS would do the trick. The new Giant ones have up to 150mm drop, with a new clamp so are well worth a look

Tyres, dropper, and wheels. The standard wheels are not light at all. The tyres are not up to taking a proper beating, and a dropper is, well, a dropper and is useful to have definitely. Also, thicker stanchion forks if you can as well.

I've just sold mine, it looked like this after I'd upgraded nearly everything.

my recommendation...save money, sell stance, buy trance or anthem or anthem sx with maestroSmile probably a money issue and thats why you bought the stance in the first placeSmile

Stock seat post seems long to me, it wouldn't go down far enough, But I'm only 5'9",, also reached seemed a touch long.

I put the seat at the highest I will ever use it, marked it, measured the distance between where I have it and the minimum seat height mark, then cut that much off the seat post so the seat will now go lower when I want it down. I rarely actually drop it, if I start dropping it more I will up grade to a dropper seat post.

As far as the reach I switched to a 40mm stem. I moved the brake levers inside the shifters to facilitate one finger braking, I also added a loony bin bottle holder.. It is adjustable and tightens up enough so the bottle doesn't fall out over bumps, but that is not specific to the Stance.

can I just ask, what is that bottle holder, do you have a link? had a nightmare trying to get something to work well for my trance

It was just a cheapo B-Twin one form Decathlon.

What rear shock did you put on?

Hey all. I just bought a 2017 giant trance 2 and I freaking love it. But the 11-42 cassette is a bit to tough for me on the steep stuff. I live in Carbondale Colorado so my trail system has some pretty darn aggressive climbs. I'd like to upgrade the six 11-42 to a cassette with a 46 tooth cog. I'm not really interested in the xt cassette because its the same thing except it has a 46 cog in the back so all other gears are the same. I'm hoping to get a cassette with a more even progression that has a few more gears on the easy side. I like the Sunrise Mx8. My only concern is this. Pardon my ignorance but will my SLX Shadow + derailleur accommodate a cassette with 46 teeth? I sure hope so because that would make this a 55$ upgrade. Can anyone provide any input on this?

Sunrace mx8 11-46 cassette Vs Shimano XT

Shimano 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-46
Sunrace 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-36-40-46

You will likely need some longer b-screw fettling to make it work. And ideally it will be a long cage mech too.

I'll revive this post....

Bought the wife a 2015 Stance 1 27.5 Small. Have already swapped tires for High rollers, RF grips, platform pedals, and dropper post. Looking to do some more upgrades on the bike. Need to focus on suspension and drive train. Wife does not ride all too often and I use the bike for short course trails around town when she doesn ride. Looking for fork and shock upgrade that suites both 120 and 180lb riders that wont kill the wallet. Not looking to get anything brand new and over the top. Just something that can take a beating and allow the bike to flow through the chop better.

Also looking to swap to a BB for single cassette and better gear ratio. Taller first and a lower final would be fantastic. What are my options. What I can do to update the cassette and derailleur?

Thanks.

I'm also upgrading my drivetrain, and I'll be receiving it and installing it within the next month to my Stance. I don't think you need to change your BB, but this is how I'm planning on doing it:
Shimano XT M8000 Crankset, Derailleur, Shifter, and Chain, with a Box Two Cassette.
The Box has a range of 11-46 kinda like the Shimano one but the Shimano 11-46 one has a really bad range of gears and the Box has a smoother spread of gears.
