SRAM XG 1150 vs SRAM XG 1180 Cassettes

Hi Gals n Guys

Short version is i've been sent a SRAM XG 1180 Cassette to replace my defective SRAM XG 1150 but i brought a new SRAM XG 1150 while waiting thats on the bike now and in use for 4 rides.

So i'm wondering whether to keep the new SRAM XG 1180 as a spare, put it on right away or sell it, the 1180 costs more than twice as much as the 1150 and i have no clue as to how much better its "supposed to be", i know the 1st 3 gears are machined from a solid block bla bla bla an its a lil lighter... so is that only reasons its costs more. Would it take an expert rider to benifit from whatever differences it has over the 1150?
What would u do?

I'd just keep it as a spare. The difference between the two is not huge, probably not noticeable at all in function, and barely noticeable in weight, if at all.

Would you like $50 or 50g savings? Minor weight difference, huge price difference. Ride the 1150 a bit more, make sure it works, then sell off the 1180.

Cassettes are so stupid expensive now, makes me think 11 speed is a crock. Remember when any bike shop had a wall of cogs so you could just replace the worn ones?

I think i will just hold on to it for a while then sell it, if i sell it i can buy a spare 1150 and still have like £50-70 left over.

captaingrumpy when i read what you said then looked @ you avatar i had to laugh, the expression matches perfect.

I have to say Sram make good stuff but their prices are crazy for the higher end stuff, i brought a spare cassete for my old bike that cost about £27 (also sram), but i didn't end up using it, when i sold the bike i'd done 1500 miles on the original chain & cassette and the chain was still in great shape, little stretch, i really wonder if any of these new 1's will last as long, especially the X1 costing over 5 times as much.....Crazy!

I actually have a Specialized Epic mounted with a XG1150 casstte and a new XX1 chain... I know it's weird that a bike like this has a basic cassette such as this one but the guy I bought this bike from had it replaced for the cheapest option, good.
I've done about 1500 km on my bike and I started to notice a creaking sound when pedaling hard on any sprocket on my cassette. I've cleaned the lot, adjusted everything and still this annoying sound is driving me mad since I have a high end bike. What kind of creaking sound are you talking about and would it be worth it to upgrade to XX1 cassette?

I've had many bikes and cassette before and it never happened to me. When I started to hear some noise on my drivetrain, usually it was due to a worn piece of equipment. But on this cassette, there's no sign of anormal wear except for the anodized coating that is gone on most of the teeth.

Correct that's why I didn't want to be buying another one after the xg1150 would develop a creak and went with the nonpinned cassette

And how is your XG1195 so far, any creaking. I started to head creaking sound on mine after 1500 km, my chain is still in good shape but the rest is sh**

Super satisfied besides issue which i haven't really figured it out yet, either i have bent hope pro 4 axle, xd driver or cassette itself. I can spot a small wobble going on there when i spin cassette backwards

The price is surreal tho
