Hi everyone.

I’m in the process of investing in a bike. I’ve been riding just over a year and love it!! Wanna invest some money in a do all bike. The guy in the shop recommended the 2019 Scott spark 960.
Seems like an amazing bike that can do it all but it’s short on reviews, anyone own one or seen any comments on it?

Not sure about the 2019 model, but the 2018 one got good reviews. The Scott Spark has always been an XC+ kind of bike, so lightweight but fun with the right amount of geometry/travel.

These bikes feel more cross country than the geo numbers suggest and they're very heavy (32+ lbs at this price point). The suspension is very active to the point it relies on the remote lockout which displaces your dropper lever. I'm not a fan of the Spark (in 27.5+ or 29). It doesn't do anything well except for technical climbing.

That's not a do it all bike imo, its more like a base model xc race bike. And a really heavy base model at that. What is do it all for you? Generally, well for me at least a do it all is more trail oriented, maybe a medium travel trail bike like a SC 5010, or similar.

Thanks, thing is I do a lot of climbing and that’s all we’ve got round here so I like the idea of the lockout on rear and then unlock for when I go down lol. Thanks for advice though. Is that what you mean by cross country opposed to down hill?

I suppose do it all for me is being able to climb confidently and then be able to let loose when going down hill.

That Scott is not the bike for letting loose going downhill. And its 32lbs, its not going to climb as easily as a lighter bike. Confused I'd put money down that my 150mm travel, 26lbs Lapierre would climb better.

A lighter bike with a more efficient linkage is going to climb better without needing a remote lockout.

About the geometry...just looking at the numbers (like the head tube angle) it seems like it would be a capable trail bike (like a Trance or 5010) but it does not inspire confidence descending. It feels awkward out of the saddle. It feels like an XC bike.

The Spark has a terrible seat angle, was the main thing I noticed on a short test ride when climbing (it was also not as efficient as other similar travel bikes I have ridden when in the 'Open' setting).

i'm looking at the same bike or a Merdia 120 600
if you bought the spark 960 how do you rate it?

I'll give my feedback as a 42yr old who got into mtb just 2 yrs ago. History on me is a 26yr weightlifter, who also used to ride motocross and got about 40lbs too heavy (230lbs). My bro-in-law asked if I wanted to try mtb to lose weight and have fun. Long story short, I loved it.
I started on a cheap heavy single speed, then bought a rigid fat bike, then found I loved climbing (mental right?). I loved the suffering and wanted to push myself.
Ok, enough of that. Fast forward to now and I own 7 bikes, including road, etc. I tried Specialized, Santa Cruz, Pivot, Rocky Mountain, but I was blown away by the Scott Spark. I ended up getting the WC model and it is soooo fast. I entered my first race last weekend and got 2nd out of 21 riders. I was smoking the climbs.
It's my favorite bike, but a close 2nd is my Framed Alaskan Carbon, but for different reasons. You do not need 150mm of travel, trust me and I'm still just over 200lbs and do up to 3ft-4ft jumps. Enough to give me a smile and not injure myself.
The Scott will not disappoint you and the TwinLoc is sweeeet!
