Lyrik 27.5 with a 29er

My old Fox Float 26" was able to accommodate a 27.5 quite happily so now I'm wondering if the new Lyrik 27.5 I have will do the same for a 29er. There seems to be enough clearance using the tape measure and we don't really get really cloggy mud here so not really bothered about that.

Anyone tried it with any success?

So i just tested this for you and it is possible. But it is really tight. With a zip tied on fender it was rubbing on a 2.3 minion. Without a fender I would say it is safe to run a 2.3 but probably nothing bigger.

austink is right, also fox forks typically have more tire clearance on the lowers compared to rockshox.

Clearance in the lowers don't tell you if the tire would hit the crown or not when bottoming out and that's the real problem. Let the air out and check and then take in consideration some flex. My bet is that it won't work.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

I'll try with someone else's wheel and with the fork deflated. I'm guessing if the arch clears, surely the crown would be designed to have the same, or slightly higher, clearance, no?

Let's see

The clearance problem is usually at the crown and not the arch.

Thanks to all of your replies.

I finally made the step up from 27.5 to 29 with the original fork. I'm running Mk3 Flows with a Minion DHF DH 2.5 and it clears...just!

6mm from the top of the knobs so I can't run a mudguard. I decided against the Assegai's for this reason but I'd be interested to try.
