Hi all. I’m riding a Nomad V5 and I really want to get an Onyx hub however I don’t know if such high engagement will be a problem with kick back. Anyone have any issues with high engagement with VPP?

Unlikely to occur, and very unlikely to be severe.

You may have seen charts showing that Bike X has θ° of kickback. The full θ value will occur while coasting only on a full-travel hit - from top-out to bottom-out - without any forward motion and without any delay in hub engagement. Any modification to any of those variables will reduce the kickback. Under realistic conditions, it takes a severe impact to induce any kickback while coasting, let alone a problematic amount of kickback.

You will definitely feel kickback while pedaling or while the rear wheel is locked. The former is closely linked to the bike's anti-squat and is independent of hub engagement. The latter can be largely avoided with proper brake technique.
