Well, I think I have been mountain biking too much. I am 53 years old and have been biking hard for the last 25 years. The last couple of years I have been dealing with shoulder/neck pain. I finally got an mri and it said:
1. Low-grade partial intrasubstance tear of the infraspinatus, on a background of moderate tendinosis. 2. Mild supraspinatus tendinosis. 3. Probable small tear of the inferior labrum. 4. Very mild degenerative changes in the acromioclavicular joint.
I have been off the bike for the last 3 months as it is ski season. Unfortunately, after my first ride of the season, my shoulder is pissed.
Has anyone dealt with this kind of shoulder pain. My chiropractor wasn't a huge help. Not sure if I should be doing certain stretches or strengthening of shoulder. Do I need a different bike setup. I tried cutting my bars down and am dissapointed to have narrower bars. Thanks

A short course of anti-inflammatories along with a course of formal PT for rotator cuff and scapular stabilization exercises is what I would prescribe a patient with your MRI findings. Probably don't be needing to cut bars down, would just keep them neutral to where your shoulder lines up naturally.

I know all about it. I fully tore my suprspinatus, had surgery, went through rehabab for months and months and then found that it was partially torn/delaminated with a follow up mri. I was not ready to go through it all again so i worked with my trainer to get by. Lots of stretching and strength stuff with bands. I went back to get the surgery but decided i would live with it. I Do a lot of traction to create more room in the joint and work on strengthening my trapezuius muscles. You do not want to start rolling your shoulders forward to compensate if you do you will create all kinds of other problems with your neck and what not. good luck

^^^100% You're MRI findings are (sadly) just typical of all us older guys that have an active lifestyle. Its time to do continuous targeted work to strength you shoulders and scapular engagement.
