My front brake came stripped at the brake bleed screw. Spinning and leaking. A quick search shows this is a catastrophic failure--and a common issue if you dare over tighten the bleed screw. Replace full lever assembly. Well that takes a week or more if it is available...and a full bleed install. So I ordered new lever/master cylinder. Then bled the old trashed lever as normal without the cup. Not perfect but whatever. Plenty of bubbles.

Then a typical brake mount or other next size up allen screw that is nice and short with the gromet from the original, and some grunt...threaded nicely and sealed up perfect. The pot mettle they make these things out of just naturally accepted the next size up and sealed it tight.

Long descent shows it works as new and no issue. It may make it for the whole week till new lever/master cylinder arrives. It works so well it may just stay untill bleed time then switch over to new.

The farmer fix never gonna bleed right, but I can still ride and it holds tight.

May get me through for quite some time.

I have much older shimano hydro brakes i bleed twice a year, never had this strip issue on them and they at least 10 years old.

Bleed my wifes Xts no issue, bled some XTRs no issue. my bleed cup screwed a ton o brakes and still workin great.

Had codes, bled them, big hassle but whoa mommy good brakes.

TLDR Dont toss that deore lever in the can if it strips, you can bung a bigger screw with grommet in there!

I mean, well done for attempting to fix it, and mostly succeeding.
If it was me, and if I had to choose a component on my bike, brakes is the absolute last thing I'd want bodged back together...

Did the same thing with a steerer stem bolt once, rammed a 5mm through! Eek Only for one ride until the new one arrived. tup
