Darren Berrecloth is a professional mountain bike freerider for Specialized, travelling the planet searching for the sickest terrain and burliest competitions.
Dan Milner is EpicTV's Mountain Bike Editor and is a renowned mountain bike and snowboard photographer. In 10x10, Milner hits the world's best MTB riders with 10 questions in 10 minutes.
don't know either it was because i read the comments first or because i like that british humor but i quite enjoyed the interview it was not bad... take it with a pinch of salt guys x
I agree with the claw in that rampage was way more gnar without the slope style jumps.... The first 3 rampages had some crazy lines because it was all new and you had to make up your lIne entirely ..... Good vid despite the interviewers corny and not so funny remarks...
Im surprised he didnt ask him what brand of underwear is most effective for sky diving, would riders benefit from a diferent shape wheel, or do you think an earthworm could enter rampage and if so would it have a chance of winning. What a fu@king douche bag, he looks like a reformed smackhead who found mountain biking and it changed his life. Then some twat gave him an interview show as part of his "rehabilitation into society" programme.
Guys, Dan Milner might not be as funny as you think, but he is also a great action sport photographer. @ze0c00l44, before saying is a douche, watch the movie "Deeper" or "Further", those are snowboard movies which he work on, in where they travel the world to find good lines, and f*cking hike to do them, exactly like "where the trails end", but for snowboard. A bit of respect please.
@Elbeciko, Im a mountain biker dude and to be totally frank, could not give a flying fu@k about snowboarding, what else the douche bag does for a living or how hard he has to work to do what he does. And it was written in jest, watching the interview hasnt ruined my life or anything, I wasnt serious, although I found the dude mildly annoying. I wrote the comment for a bit of fun, thats all. I hiked once so can relate, ive also seen snow and taken some photographs and FYI it isnt that hard. I didnt mean to cause such controversy though, JEEZE. And if I knew you were going to get so upset, then I wouldnt have bothered. Come on man lets all get on, lifes too short to hold a grudge.
I think zerOcc.. has got it right here. This is a positive -if uneasy for some- way of me finding my way back into regular life in the community -have spent too many days stuck in tents in the middle of Alaska afterall. But it's not just been snow shoots (which as you point out are easy as heck). Some might know my name as a bike photographer for mags such as MBUK, Bike, Singletrack, Bicycling, Bike Germany, Terringsykkel and more..(there's some stories here on PB too.. search them) and my MTB life goes back over 30 years -from magazine work to bike shop mechanic to distributor sales and warranty to shop floor, so you could say I know mountain biking too. This series is about putting some (perhaps twisted) humor into the bike scene, and like it or not there's more to come. You can like them or not, your choice. Got a question for a rider coming up in the series? Then go to the epicTV facebook page and post it. Or maybe contact epicTV and pitch your own show. It can only be better than mine right?
LOL, well said Dan, and taken in the spirit it was said. A bit of fun, after all this is only a mountain bike forum, were not talking about curing cancer or sex offenders or world famine. No offence dude, I was just joking around. You do look like a rehabilitated smack head though, all those weeks and months spent in Alaska on those easy shoots with minimal rations no doubt (that I have no experience with so dont know what im talking about any way). Take it easy man. And to be honest I enjoyed your interview, keep em coming, ill be sure to watch the next one
Only good question was "what is wrong with home?" and Darren's reply was great. The rest of the interview, so bad! Is it necessary to chew cookies and talk with the mouth full?
Wow, who would have thought trying to add a bit of humor to our sport would rattle so many cages eh? Well, thanks y'all for watching, and you know they say in TV that if you don't provoke a response then it's not worth doing! (OK I may have made that bit up). So I'll put these interviews in context: it's not meant to be the ultimate, in depth, serious 1-on-1 with a rider, but to add a little fun to the ever-so-serious game of mountain biking. No not everyone will like or appreciate my own Brit brand of twisted humor, but whatever, plenty do (well, my mum and girlfriend at least.) To like or not -thats your choice. Hey, I don't like bacon but they still make it. So don't take it too seriously. If you scour the interweb you will find a dozen interviews with such riders all asking the same old questions "what is it like to 360 a cliff?", "what is your best bike?" ,"how do you do this?.." "what do you think of the new enduro scene..?" etc. This series came about because Matt Hunter (the first interview) did not want to be asked the "same old questions". You'll actually find the riders answers are quite a good insight into their lives.. it's just I find a different way of asking them. And there'll be a new one each month you can like or hate.. Barel, Hans Rey, Mark Weir... Just don't tell my mum you don't like the program, or she'll get upset. YAnd the series is easy to find: just hashtag douchebag.
Why doesn't he ask questions that people will actually want to know the answers to? I don't give a shit about how big his lips have been when he ate a curry
Wow, some of you folk are taking this a bit serious. Lighten up... you're never going to find every joke funny.
Its not supposed to be a straight laced, down the line interview.
I enjoyed it and its not hard to see Berrecloth's amusement too.
Maybe we'll do an outtakes later in the year for the first few interviews. Theres some real moments. Unfortunately we have to cut a lot to get it down to 10 minutes and even then it's way too long for today's ADD population. We're working on it.
hes a twat, why would you ask the claw about wearing a sumo suit to ride?, got a unique opportunity and asks completely shit questions and tells him he cant spell, you don't speak to the claw like that, have some respect!
You guys ARE weird as f*ck, some of you though can pull it off and be funny, or unique or have class/charm, the interviewer was not able to pull any of this off.
of course i'm also described by friends as "eccentric" so........................
8 minutes and 47 seconds of my life lost. The guy interviewing is a complete knob, he should apologise to the claw for asking such nonsensical questions
Darren is such a class act. Him and Cam McCaul are such great ambassador's of the sport. Hopefully one of these days I'll have the opportunity to talk to Darren, even if it's just for one minute. He seems like such a great guy. I really enjoy all the films he makes. He's got so much talent.
Most influential freerider the world has ever seen, lets ask 9.5 if the most pointless questions we can come up with, and then act like an arrogant twat the entire way through.
I feel like berrecloth likely got off the web cam and said " wow, what a douche that guy was " but of course he was too nice of a guy to say that to the interviewer.
My question for the interviewer would be: " so does anybody actually find you funny, or is it just you"?
Thanks for the info about DB's blog though, I will be sure to check it out.
Thanks for the question dmadness. My mum finds me funny. Sometimes. But it's when she's drunk, so she doesnt remember. FYI Bearclaw was itching to do this interview after he saw the MH one (as have the other athletes in the series, (online soon), and he came right back afterward we did it to hook up with me to film another EpicTV Gear Geek too. So I guess he wasn't too upset by it all. Or maybe he is trying to help the Care-in-the-Community program I am on. Afterall, if I wasn't doing these shows I'd be breaking into houses and smoking crack.
We good on you for not smoking crack, maybe you need to drink less coffee also or something and think of some better questions to ask people who have been, and continue to be influential and ground breaking in biking.
YEp PB has just taken on running this series.. so there will be a new one each month (I hear groans from some people). So yep this one was "late" but the others will be up first.
Is it necessary to chew cookies and talk with the mouth full?
