The Devinci Log Jam (and Fiona) Road Trip - Day 3 and there is a stick in our spokes....

So this morning we decide to split up our 5 rider crew that had finally all found each other as Mike had to be in Penticton for 8:30am and Gee’s truck well it needed to find some love today. FGT joined Mike in the early (5:20am departure) trip to Penticton and I stayed behind with the rif raf to help sort out the truck. Plus if the truck is down for a few days, the 3 of us can load up the 4 runner and hit the road and be in Penticton this afternoon, right?Well I’m glad we aren’t living by the plans we make initially or we’d all be disappointed, instead we rolled with it and had a good day. Gee’s truck is kinda humped with a dead heater core and a head gasket that’s on the way out-time to buy a Toyota Gee. We got a call around 11 am from Mike telling us that the riding was good in Penticton, but that since we weren’t there yet to just get laps in on the trails in Kamloops and fire down at the end of the day. Sounded like a fair plan to me.

We called up Mr. Hunter and as luck would have it, he was headed out for a trail ride at that moment and was willing to wait for us to get there-SWEET! Note: Matt’s truck, Anger was stolen a few days ago from behind a local shop in Kamloops. Anyone that knows Matt, probably knows Anger too as they were pretty much a dynamic duo like Batman and the Batmobile. We met up with Matt, Alan and Ben for a nice Kamloops’ trail rip. Gee was in his glory when ever Matt said-“well if you don’t mind hitting things blind, this is just a nice booter/hip/step down, but just aim left/right/straight and you’ll be fine.” Gee can ride a two wheeler, but is most at home in the air. After watching some sessioning go down it was time to re-group and head out of town to Jaimeson for a lap.

I’d never been to Jaimeson and due to an unfortunate tire puncture and a long ass hike, I really can’t tell you how that trail is. Note: I am an overly prepared rider, who carries too many tools and various bits, but Gee got a flat on Harper the night before and we hadn’t been able to get a new tube for the old pack. A few other riders had Schrader tubes, but unfortunately my rims were Presta only. Oh well Gee will be buying me dinner for this one! But thankfully Ross keeps telling me that it was pretty good and that this one corner…..Damned Ross!

After thanking the big crew we were off to ride another trail in Kamloops. Since I can’t find a tube on a Sunday, I volunteer for shuttle duty and got to drive Ryan Claw’s sweet new wheels down the hills. Ryan and his buddy Travis were in town loving the heat and the local trails just like we were. Ryan and Travis had to jet to Kelowna and he had to get our asses to Penticton as FGT was hanging at Chuck de Railer's pad with the rest of the MTB Porn Star Posse. Loaded up and Penticton bound we hit the road to re-join the log jam tour.

FGT and Kinbad's day:

Meanwhile in Penticton, Mike and I had set up camp at the Penticton Bike Festival and started looking for a shuttle partner. After a few attempts ol’ Johnny Smoke pulled through and we set out for Pete’s Bog with a group of 9, including three girls, Cecilia, Margaret and Maria, the most girls I had seen in days and, of course, they all ripped it up. The trails were from back in the day but had some fun new stunts scattered throughout, Johnny and Chuck de Railer led the pack through two shuttles.

Around dinner time Kinrade skipped town to go visit his parents and me and the crew, (Johnny, Barb, Steve from Sombrio, Chuck D, and Maria) decided to head out for an evening run on Rusty Muffler (kind of sounds like Gee's truck). Super fun, fast, cruisy trail, the perfect wind down after a day of hard shuttles. So part way through Rusty Muffler I ended up behind Barb and couldn’t figure out why this girl ripped so freaken fast on a hardtail, what the *&^$-who is she? Then later I was informed by Tyler that it was Barb Haley, ok, that is so cool, she rocks. Barb is a Legend in the women’s bike world and I got to ride with her!

Talk about a full pull of biking, from 8:30 a.m. at the bike fest to the 8:00 p.m. cruiser ride down to the beach. The Penticton Mountain Bike Porn Star Posse knows how to ride bikes (and definitely like their gin and tonics along the way…) crazy, can’t wait ‘til tomorrow.

This trip is brought to you by Devinci Bikes.
