Freeride Mountain Bike Spring Training Day One

Jun 15, 2012
by Highland Mountain Bike Park
Freeride Mountain Bike Spring Training is underway at Highland Mountain Bike Park. Having arrived last night the riders were chomping at the bit to hit the mountain today. By lunch time Highland's newest toy the Ayr Bag was unfolded and inflated for its inaugural run. With a little team work a plywood run-in was laid and the lip muscled into place.

First to t-off was Dustin Gilding with a massive front flip. With hoots form fellow riders Dustin had set the stage. For much of the afternoon the Bag was assaulted with a barrage of massive airs.

Big bag-o-happiness

Big ol 360 tuck no hander. This kid is one to watch.

Plywood highway to moto booter to Ayr Bag.

Clint boosts frontys like he s getting blasted from a cannon.

Once the crew had their fill of climbing out of depths of the Ayr Bag in the midday sun, some of the younger crew, Dustin Gilding, Brayden Barrett-Hay, and Brett Rheeder headed to Sherwood for some dirt jumpin' while Kyle Strait and T-Mac headed back to McCaul's pond in search of some lunkers. No big ones were caught, but over in Sherwood the jumps were sculpted to perfection and the crew threw down a bmx style session till the smell of burgers lured them home for dinner.

Sculpted to perfection

I am so fortunate to have been to Highland this year. I did not get to see the Ayr Bag or get to shred Sherwood or the HTC. I only did downhill for 5 straight hours (the only time I could afford on this trip), but I will be back. Mark my words, I will be back!

It was a blast to ride today, the weather was absolutely perfect and the trails were excellent! It was also pretty amazing to actually see this Ayr Bag, its much bigger in person and it was a blast to watch the guys go off (plus towards the end of the day many of them were shredding sections of slopestyle course which was fun to watch)! Can't wait till the Claymore Challenge!
