Luke Ball is one of the new breed of young DH riders that are clawing their way through smaller UK races, they have bags of skill and style and if they keep at it, and get the right support are the sort of people that may be on the world scene in years to come...
As Luke Ball lives so close to me in Devon that my camera is often pointed in his direction and it's no hardship as the camera loves him.
I fired a few questions his way so that you can get to know the Rider behind the Photos/Videos a little better...
Age? 18
Where do you call home? Plymuff m8ey
How long have you been riding for? Been riding for about 4 years.
What's your local spot, what sort of riding is it? My local is cann woods, and the riding is flat and pedally...trails last about 45 seconds downhill.
Fav place to ride? Fort Williams
Fav riders? Sam Hill, Brendan Fairclough and Adam Brayton!
What bike/s are you riding at the moment? An Ironhorse Yakuza hardtail for blazing the streets and dirt jumps, an Ironhorse Sunday factory for the sick stuff!
How do you have them set up? Hardtail doesn't really matter, but with my DH bike I like big flat bars and my tires pretty flat too and that's about it...ha ha!
How's racing going for you? Pretty buttery! Lots of ups and downs!
Highlights/low points of the season? Highlights...ummm I got 9th at my second ever national, so that was pretty sick for me. And probably the lowest point of the season for me would have been the final NPS at Rheola, I started off on an awesome run, but about quarter of the way down my mech and chain blew up...I rode it out, but that was costly.
Best result to date and where? 1st Kustom bikes, Coomb Sydenham.
Have you been on any good road trips? I went to France to ride for a week this year...dust...and long trails!
Best trip/ride of the year? My trip to Fort William!
You got any sponsors that you want to thank? I would like to thank Plymouth Cycle scene.
Who are your main rivals? TURNS!
What are your aims for next season? My goals are the same as last season... TRY... and ride my bike as fast as I possibly can all the time and have fun...then see where I get to!
Where do you hope to be in 3 years both with riding and in life? I will still be ridin' a bike at a good pace and enjoying it...and hopefully doing better at the race scene.
Here are a few random things:
Fav colour? Red.
Fav band? Rise Against.
Fav food? Chinese.
Fav saying? You've got blue wheels...
Here is a video I shot of him on his home tracks a few weeks ago...
And another video I shot of him a few months ago on a track at Gawton down by us...
And a few photos from that shoot...
