Nanaimo Super D-Results and pics.

The first ever Super D on Van Isle was held in Nanaimo this past weekend. It was a great turn out, over 90 riders from all over the island, the mainland, Washington and even as far as Quebec.

The good guys of Arrowsmith bikes, who always put on a great race, decided to do things a little different than your regular styles. Starting five at a time got riders going right out of the gate to attempt to get the holeshot. Being a Super D meant there was lots of pedaling, especially with a surprise 2nd run.Organizers decided last minute to do a 2nd run so race results were based on a combined time of two runs. Some of the top riders in Canada were there ripping it up and trying to chase these guys down was enough to make a guy puke and I hear some people did.

With all levels of riders there it was interesting to see a full range of bikes. The all mountain bike seemed to prevail as Jeremy Vasburgh took 1st with a time of 16:07 on his Switch with super light tires. Dan Espeseth was 2nd with 16:09 and Andrew Mitchell came 3rd with 16:13 riding his full on DH rig.

In Expert Women Kjersten Lone took 1st with 19:04 riding her xc bike, Adrienne Miller was 2nd with 20:01 and Seana Wright came in 3rd with 22:20 on her freeride bike.

This was the first race of the FloraGLO Island DH series 2007. A special thanks to trail crew, prize contributors and volunteers. Everyone had a great time and the course got rave reviews. Half of all the proceeds from the race are going to the Nanaimo land trust to try and purchase Mt. Benson, thanks racers!
