Check out the video below of Round #1 of the 2012 BC Cup Downhill series:
After many months of intense preparation, the time had finally arrived; our first race had finally come around. Close to home, the venue was the Kamloops Bike Ranch, stop number 1 on the
2012 BC Cup Downhill Series.
We rolled into town late Friday night and by Saturday morning, the overall vibe started off with a high level of excitment and some fair degree of anticipation. The team had been riding the course for a couple of weeks beforehand so they were keen to find out whether it was riding as expected. A thorough DEFCON5 level course walk and a few practice laps told them it was running fast and tacky, thanks to heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the race, it was a pleasant exception to the usually dusty Kamloops conditions.
Bikes tuned, an early dinner, and some much needed rest followed by a call at the
Bicycle Cafe to collect our tickets for the
Strength In Numbers premiere of the movie at Thompson Rivers University that night. A great crowd and rad movie stoked us up even more for raceday Sunday.
Sunday morning, the team awoke early and were raring to go, totally focused on the task at hand. A healthy breakfast with lots of chatter about
SIN the night before, followed by two final scouting laps, they were ready to leave it all on the table. Let the racing begin!
Team Manager Rob Cochrane was ecstatic with the overall results. "The highlight of the weekend has to be Regan's second place finish in his first Elite race. I was exceptionally pleased with Jayson's efforts in his first race after stepping up to (17-18 )Jr. Expert. Despite having a heavy crash while on his way to a solid podium finish he still managed 17th just 15 seconds back off the pace. With Spencer finishing 7th we narrowly missed out on having all our Elite riders in the top ten, with Ryan just half a second back in 11th".
Demonstrating that in racing, rarely do things go to plan, Rob was seen making unforeseen changes to Regan's bike not once but twice, moments before the Elite class took to the course.
All in all the weekend was a rousing success. Fun and good times were had by all, old friendships reunited, new friendships created. This one's a wrap!
We would like to personally thank all of the event volunteers, commissaires, sponsors, Brad Stuart and the KBRA, as well as Cycling BC, for putting on such a well organized and fun event. Also, 'Thanks' to all of the riders, families, and spectators who came out to support racing in BC. With continued support as seen at this first race, racing in BC will continue to become more popular each year and that my friends, is a win for all of us!
