Tom Gulson is a mountain biker, editor and film-maker, and a good friend of ours here at geebeebee media. Tom's also a good friend of the one and only Josh "Ratboy" Bryceland and given Tom's job as a broadcast editor on the world’s longest-running sports magazine TV series, Trans World Sport, he thought it would be a great idea to put a piece together on Josh, who rarely features in edits, despite being a great rider to film with. Always stylish, always having fun!
This short film isn't a typical mountain bike edit in the sense of all out riding action, but a profile of Josh and his roots, and is targeted at a much broader audience than solely DH-only mountain bikers. In Tom's own words, "I think it’s good to show mountain biking to the non mountain biking world. Apologies if the language is a bit ‘simple’ for some!"
Tom shot the feature at Wales' very own Revolution Bikepark, around their home town in the North West of England, where Josh got his first sponsorship through North West Mountain Bike Centre, and at the canal boatyard where Josh grew up. NWMTB's Andy Kyffin and Josh's dad, Iain, also got in front of the camera to shed a bit more light on one of the UK's top riders.
Yes! I love when they do this wit riders, you get to know them in a way, an yes where they came from to where they are now. makes you/me understand an appriciate that rider more, an even makes me love MTB even more an more! yea ima day late on this vid lol
Used to watch Transworld Sport every Sat morning during the 90s- weird to hear the commentator talking about MTB- I kept expecting him to say at 'At the top of the Golf World Rankings is Nick Faldo'.
Sick Vid- Bryceland is already a legend.
I can't work out why there are not more video edits featuring Ratboy, his part in the Blur TR release is one of my favourite MTB video clips ever. Beneath the goofy exterior is one hell of a talent.
Josh is one of the most inspiring guys out there !!! And this video really blew me away! Hope one day we could see him on the top, if he isn't there already.
