Attention to detail, tried & true feature designs and an overall dedication to the sport of downhill make this redesigned section of Gypsy as good as it gets. Watch as The Northstar California trail crew builds, tests and shreds the new Gypsy trail. Pro Rider Adrienne Schneider tags along as well!
Yeah, the new wood berms are refreshing for N*. They don't crumble into dust and you can rail them. There's plenty of natural stuff up there, so this gives them some variety. I think it's a great improvement from before. Well done. Looking forward to it flowing all the way down.
Too bad its the only trail on the whole damn mountain that they worked on since the snow melted...livewire looks like it hasnt be touched since the 2010 season!!!! All the burms are completely blown and the jumps are just piles of sand!!! Northstar needs to start giving a f--- about their bike park!!!
Hey guys I'm visiting my parents in Reno right now and brought the enduro with me so I can go to N*. What trails should I hit while I'm there? I'm more into fast flowy, gypsy looks nice any others? Thanks!
I talked to some friends who rode the rebuilt gypsy this week. They said the rebuilt trail is even worse than before. Jumps are poorly laid out, really awkward, and the trail is EVEN FLATTER somehow. Unbelievable. Northstar needs to get their act together before the park just dies completely. Too bad their media hype doesn't match their trail building reality.
I was there on friday and was not at all impressed. Gypsy is a fun trail and so is livewire but the rest of the mountain lacks that TLC that makes a good bike park. Granted I'm used to riding Trestle @ Winter Park so my standards may be a little high but I road a few other trails there that didn't show ANY signs of having been touched since the snow melting. Even the locals said they were severely let down on opening day to find that Gypsy wasn't finished and the other trails and yet to be worked on.
I've been there during the weekends and I've never seen one person out there working. I've haven't seen any progress in three weeks... i paid for a season pass i expect the trails to be worked on during the week when there is no one there. Someone has already brought up the cat box they call boondocks. So sad. Draging a lot of ass. Just saying.
Hi everyone - thanks for your feedback, we do appreciate it! We're constantly working to make our trails and guest experience better, and your comments help us in this process. This video is the beginning of a Trail Crew series we'll continue throughout the season to give you trail status updates. Any trails you'd like to see highlighted in the future? Thanks!
trail crew needs to get to work lets spend less time riding and testing each feature and get something done. what sad is the local trails in Truckee are waaaaayyyyy better as far as maintained and built and there not getting paid. If your a trail crew member getting paid to build you should now that what your building will work its your job to know. Seems like they build a feature and then ride it all day instead of moving on and building the next feature. I agree with the guys above never see anyone working out there and im at Northstar 2 days a week. I do see the trail crew riding haha cant blame them for wanting to ride but damn theres a lot of work that needs to be done especially finishing gypsy
Might need to head back to North* again, looks like they are putting some effort back into the place. Looking good! Though wish they ran the second lift on at least Fridays also except for just weekends to access the other trails easier with a DH bike, I'm a weekday rider mostly.
Those wooden berms are fun. My main complaint with that trail is the stupid feature down towards the bottom where they shoveled some dirt over a couple boulders to try and make a hit with a wooden ramp landing. It was blown out on opening day and is just getting worse. Try building a wooden ramp/jump over that spot instead of shoveling powdery dirt over rocks and then not maintaining it.
Pdx .... actually i enjoy building trail and your missing my point. The trail has been closed since last year. Your obviously ok with paying 50 bucks to ride clapped out burms and jumps with rocks popping out of every landing. I enjoy fast packed trail sorry i have an opinion.
"I bought a pass and the trails aren't getting maintained the way I think they should." Seriously If this is your attitude you abviously never have worked on a trail before. Trail building is hard work and u should be happy that u even have a place to ride. Next time you go ride think about all the work someone else did so that u can just show up with ur bike and ride the nirve of some people.
Haha, you serious? Umm let me think..... RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM NORTHSTAR ARE 1000x better trails for free with bigger drops, bigger jumps, way better maintained trails. I almost couldn't believe it the first time I rode there. I bought my N* pass my first two seasons living here but I don't anymore because everyones comments above are 100% correct. They don't put in any work. N* in the winter has one of the best parks I have ever ridden. It's a shame really but what can they do? They don't make enough in the summer obviously.
