The Evolution of the ‘Shore’

Nov 21, 2005
by Tyler Maine
One of the first obvious signs that a person is maturing is when they develop a sense of style; the same can be said about a sport. It used to be that the ‘best’ freeriders were the ones most willing to huck their meat off the biggest drop, and the best freeride bikes were designed to endure the most abuse.

Well, times they are a-changin’. To be ‘pro’ today means you have style, as well as cojones. It’s not enough to just go big. You need to go big, trick it out, and make it look so smooth and easy that your grandma will want to give it a try.The designers at Norco have carefully watched the maturing of freeride to ensure that their bikes will always suit the needs of the most progressive riders. As a result, this year’s 2006 Shore bike comes in three models that are lighter, more nimble, and more manoeuvrable in the air.

This year’s Shore uses the award winning 2005 VPS Six hydraformed down tube to reduce the overall frame weight, as well as, a lower bottom bracket and shorter head tube. To accommodate riders of all shapes and sizes, Norco is offering the series in five different frame sizes from XS to XL, and all the bikes have a lower standover height and a lower centre of gravity than any of our previous models.

The Shore 1 and 2 both come with the popular Marzocchi 66 7” single-crown, long travel forks for increased manoeuvrability on and off the ground, while the Shore 3 sports a Marzocchi Drop-Off for the rider who still prefers the stiffness and security of a triple-clamp.

The Shore 1, at $4,199 CND* is offering an impressive parts spec that includes: an 8” FOX DHX-5 rear shock, Truvativ Holzfeller cranks with an E-13 DRS dual chainguide, Shimano Saint 8” disc brakes, SRAM X-9 shifters & rear derailleur, and Syncros rims, hubs, bar, stem, grips, and headset.

In addition to the Shore, all Norco’s freeride bikes have been designed for the versatile rider who drools over steeps and dreams about technical obstacles. If you love it all, from drops, ramps, and skinnies, to dirt jumps, skate parks, and weekends at the bike park, these are your bikes. It’s time to ride in style.
