Year two for BC Bike Race – an epic 7 day mountain bike stage race from Victoria to Whistler - is about to get underway. And this year’s ‘Ultimate Singletrack Experience’ is attracting quite the crowd. With its 400 limited spots ‘sold out’ by March 1, BC Bike Race saw an exciting and significant increase in both the caliber of the front runners and the range of countries represented. Racers have signed up from as far as Japan, Australia, Colombia, Morocco, Guadeloupe and Norway and as near as our own backyard of North Vancouver. Some of the notable teams and celebrities assembled for the 2008 BC Bike Race include:

•6-Time 24Hr Solo World Champion Chris Eatough and partner Jeff Shalk of Team Trek - returning BCBR Champions,
•current 24Hr Solo World Champion Tinker Juarez and partner Mitchel Peterson of Team Cannondale/Moanvie,
•Seamus McGrath, currently preparing for the Beijing Olympics for Team Canada, and partner Chris Shepherd, former Canadian National Team athlete,
•Kris Sneddon and Barry Wicks of Team Kona,
•former Canadian Olympian, 3 x winner of the Trans Rockies Andreas Hestler and his partner Max Plaxton, Pan American Champion and UCI Under 23 World Champion Bronze Medalist riding for Rocky Mountain Bicycles; and,
•from Costa Rica, Marvin Campos Suazo and Luis de Ezpeleta of Team La Ruta.

In a few short weeks, these and hundreds of other intrepid mountain bikers will tackle the increased singletrack and gnarly terrain that makes BC the world’s #1 place to ride a bike. What separates this race from its fellow epics the world over is the sheer volume of singletrack. An even larger dose of that famous BC singletrack in 2008 is guaranteed to produce even bigger smiles for the finishers.

Now it’s official – BCBR 2009 registration opens on July 5th, 2008, one day after this year’s spectacular finish in Whistler B.C. For anyone looking for a challenge and who loves to rip it up on a mountain bike, the venue is www.bcbikerace.com.
