LAST CHANCE: Build Your Team Ahead of Round 2 - Bielsko-Biala World Cup DH 2024

We're heading into the second round of Pinkbike's DH Fantasy League, presented by the good people at Five Ten. So far over 19,000 Pinkbike readers have picked their dream World Cup DH team to be in the running to win $5000 USD cash*.

With a fictional budget of $1.5 million you will choose your ultimate team of 6 riders (4 men, 2 women) and go to battle in the Pinkbike's DH Fantasy League. Show off your skills in choosing the best riders for all 7 rounds of the 2024 UCI World Cup, plus the 2024 UCI World Championships, and your team will score points based on how your riders performed.

After Fort William, each rider’s price changed based on their results. This mean that your most expensive rider will likely be removed from your team and automatically replaced with a cheaper rider. You can make other team changes to make room to get that rider back, or replace them with another rider. At this point, it’s likely that going all-in on a top rider isn’t the winning strategy, so you’ll have to look further down the ranks to see who can deliver value for your money. Tip: look for top riders who had a bad first race and who have dropped in value.

Bragging rights are the most important part of Pinkbike's DH Fantasy League and you can join up to 2 mini-leagues and compete against your friends. Each race round will have feature prizing and then at the end of all 8 races, we crown the overall Fantasy Downhill Champion and present the Grand Prize! The League is open to everyone, but prizes are only available for contestants from the US, Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK.

Sound good? Build your team today!

Prizes
The League is open to everyone, but prizes are only available for contestants from the US, Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK. If the top contestant is not from one of these countries, prizes will go to the next eligible person.

Grand Prize / Season Overall

At the end of the season the overall Fantasy Downhill Champion will get a $5000 USD cash prize*. Yep, cold hard cash to spend on whatever you want. Should there be multiple teams with the same total cumulative points scores, the grand prize will be awarded to whoever scored the highest points in round race #1. See Official Rules for details.

In addition to the Grand Prize, $5000 USD will be donated by Five Ten in honour of the Grand Prize winner to their charity of choice of Grow Cycling Foundation, Trash Free Trails or the Athlete Recovery Fund. See Official Rules for details.

Round 1 // Fort William, Scotland

If you have the top team of the week, you'll take home two fresh pairs of shoes and an athlete-signed jersey. Each race round will have a prize for the Top Fantasy Team of that round. Should there be multiple teams with the same total points for that race round, the prize for that round will be awarded to whoever scores highest points in the tie breaker round. See Official Rules for details.

IMPORTANT: To maximize your chances to win the Grand Prize, we recommend you have your team created by the time Qualifying starts for the first round on May 4, 2024 and then before Qualifying at each consecutive round. You will want to maximize your points score and have your team present for all races.

Dynamic Rider Pricing

A big change for this year is dynamic rider pricing. Riders’ salaries will start the season based on their historical results and some insider insights, but those salaries will get updated after each round. Riders who are having a good season will rise in price over time, and riders who are struggling will drop in price.

In previous years there’s been a gradual convergence of teams as the best value riders became obvious throughout the season. Now with dynamic rider pricing, fantasy team managers will have to be more savvy as the leading riders price themselves out of their teams. This will also help more divergent strategies emerge—will you field strong mid-pack riders, or will you go all-in on an expensive top rider?

When rider prices change, if your team's budget gets pushed beyond the salary cap, your most expensive rider will be replaced with the least expensive rider. If your team is still over the budget cap, your next most expensive rider will be swapped for the least expensive rider. You can then choose to go and reallocate budget and make changes as needed. Of course, players will still have time to update their teams to their preferences in the lead-up to each round of qualifiers—they’ll just need to stay under the $1.5 million dollar cost cap. We’re excited for people to dig deeper into the field of riders, assess historical performances at specific venues, and overall fall further down the rabbit hole of DH nerding.

3-Day Blackout Period

In order to avoid players copying each other's teams, all rider selections will be hidden for 72 hours before each race. Start playing mind games with your friends that you know are shoulder-hopping your choices.

Office Leagues

Employees at Transition, Canyon, YT, and more are battling it out behind closed doors in their Office Leagues.

Offices can set up private leagues in addition to playing the main public league. Let the trash talk begin!

 Yes. Dynamic pricing sucks.

@BruceKnee: I blame those pesky riders asking for pay rises.

@BruceKnee: Vali Holl will cost 1.4M after Poland. That's no fun.

@BruceKnee: I think dynamic pricing was a good idea, they just went about it wrong. If you gamble on a lower priced rider and they exceed expectations, you should be locked into whatever price you initially picked them up at as long as you didn't remove them from your roster.

@tmwjr777: I think we will look at adding some sort of system like that in the future. It'd be great if savvy picks are rewarded with discounts over time. Or maybe there's one rider per round you can lock into a "long term" contract at their current price.

@suspended-flesh: salaries top out at $1M, so you can still build a team around a single top rider if that's the strategy you're confident in.

 @brianpark: Ah got it. TY

After the fiasco of the first one, I bailed.

While I get that previous Fantasy League versions only used points from the final race, that was before we had semi finals, so more riders qualify. That meant you could build a team with consistent mid-level results. Now that there is less riders in the final because of semi-finals, it is basically all or nothing approach, and the cheap riders to fill out your roster are basically meaningless. Next year you should consider just using UCI points.

I think that if it let us stay grandfathered into our original choices it would be great! That being said, my original team wasn't really productive so it would have been less annoying for me, but for those that picked a good team I can see how it sucks.

I think im too far gone with my 9 points.

Whats with the wild values? 1mil for the top 2 in each catagory?
This is cooked.
  • 1 0
how does the points system work?
  • 7 0
You get more points if your team members place higher.
  • 6 0
You get zero points for qualifying, and zero points for semi-finals. Only if your rider makes it to finals and doesn't DNF, DSQ, or DNS do you get points.

Which is a bit naff. Should get points for semis and if you don't get into the final you still get a few points and those that get into finals will get double points (points for each race), and then you won't have 4 out of 6 riders on 0 points....

I just want to know where I can buy those white Hellcats.
