Norco's New $4,500 Torrent DH - Ready for Big Moves & the Bike Park
It's upsetting to me that this isn't called a VPS and come with a green monocoque frame. (seriously though, nice to see a brand listening to riders)

Avinox Issues Statement on eBike Power, Speed, and Safety
@me2menow: good question, I’ll do some digging. @JSW07: in my view a normal bike rider should never have to pull off trail or pause during a climb to let an ebike rider past. Eeb can wait and find a safe place to pass. And if you ring a bell at someone on a tech climb to get them out of the way you are an asshole. The majority of people are fine, but around here I occasionally see eeb riders blasting past people too close on climb trails. Less of a problem in areas where climbs are fire roads. @justridingalong1: I guess I sort of agree that no one "needs" 1500w of power on tap, but the market obviously is willing to pay to have Filippo Ganna power. And I don't personally have a problem with it if it stays under 10km/h. I also prefer a single rule to cover ebikes, so I definitely think cargo bikes are a legitimate use of bigger power. @dancingwithmyself: thank you for the kind words. I should clarify the lack of editorial board positions. We absolutely do have some big picture editorial positions, but when it comes to things like this we are careful not to put words in each other's mouths, and respect Pinkbike as a community platform rather than a singular voice. I am old, and remember when every rich kid was given a green VPS for Christmas, and the forums thought freeride was the end of MTB. I remember when dropper posts were cheating (seriously). I remember when 29ers were going to kill the sport. Power is fundamentally different from those things, but I also think it’s worth not overreacting. I also remember Bosch’s position on power being seen as too powerful and endangering the sport. We’ll have to agree to disagree on giving people and brands platforms on things we disagree with. I’d rather these conversations play out here rather than on IG or elsewhere. We ran Hans Rey’s open letter recently, and would love to host him and Bosch on a pod sometime—maybe we bring in RC for some good jousting. Let me come back to one thing that I believe Avinox must do. IMO they must join People For Bikes and take a more active role in supporting trail access and trail building globally. Being involved directly helps everyone have a better understanding of what is at stake. And finally since apparently I’m writing a novel: if it were up to me, I’d cover all ebike regulation with two modes: climb mode with unlimited power but 10km/h speed limit, and descend mode with unlimited speed but 250w peak power output. The end. Works for cargo bikes, eMTB, commuters, all the things.

Avinox Issues Statement on eBike Power, Speed, and Safety
This has been quite the week for defensive statements from brands. I’m not entirely sure how to read this one, but Avinox argues that power and speed should be treated separately in discussions about eMTB safety. This isn’t an editorial board position (we don't have those), but most of us at Pinkbike are more sympathetic to speed regulation than power regulation. Speed differential is usually what creates conflict on trails (assholes blasting past normal bikes at 32 km/h on mellow climbs) more than peak wattage on its own. I also see real value in more power for unfit people (me), heavy riders (me), cargo-bike parents (me), adaptive users, and plenty of others. My question is whether Avinox would consider tying its highest power outputs to lower speeds: 1,500 W up to 10 km/h, for example, then tapering off as speed rises. We have an interview coming up with Avinox GM Joey Hu, and I’ll ask him. For the record, Avinox, like most eMTB motor brands, advertises on Pinkbike. Our perspectives remain our own, but apply the appropriate level of seasoning to my comments.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly: Pinkbike Tech Editors' Preferred Handlebars
I have a OneUp V2 on an ebike and generally enjoy it. I was just too busy/lazy to get it written up for Jessie-May's article. I also have BikeAhead bars I like even more (31.8, carbon, 35mm rise, compliant design, cool TPU inserts) but they are all the moneys.
