(Sechelt) – “Trail Unveil: Capilano College Mountain Bike Festival,” is a celebration of mountain biking and trail building on April 21 from 10:00am to 5:00pm and hosted by the Mountain Bike Operations students of Capilano College’s Sunshine Coast campus. Join us in this free event at the Sprockids Park in Gibsons featuring the opening of a new trail, riding, skills clinics including dirt jumping with Jay Hoots of Norco bikes, and more activities for anyone who can have fun on two wheels. The day will start off with a guided trail work session, followed by a short trail-dedication ceremony at noon. A BBQ lunch will follow, hosted by the Lions Club of Gibsons with supplies donated by Gibsons IGA and proceeds to benefit local cycling clubs. Afternoon activities include a dirt jump jam, guided trail rides, skills clinics, contests, draw prizes, bike demos, good music and good times.
At the event’s focal point is the unveiling of a new skills development trail that the students have designed and constructed throughout the year-long program. “The students have designed the trail using theories of sustainable trail design, user experience and risk management,” says Trail building Instructor and International Mountain Bicycling Association Director - Mark Schmidt. “It offers something for all levels of rider, and creates an environment where beginners can develop confidence and build their skills.”
Bring your own bicycle, extra trail work tools, and proper clothing in order to fully participate in the various activities. Show-up as early as 9:30am to register for afternoon free guided rides and clinics such as beginner’s women’s mountain bike, and dirt jumping.
