Discovery Bike Park is found just east of the small town of Philipsburg, MT. A town most commonly known for its skiing in the winter and fly fishing in the summer, is now becoming an essential Montana spot for MTB. With a relatively modest 1,100 ft of elevation drop, the crew has done an exceptional job at using the terrain to create an endless smile-inducing trail system.
Currently, there are 7 trails, ranging from beginner to expert, all with a level of flow that makes them fun for any skill level of rider. The trail builders have found a balance of pitch and speed where you don't find yourself riding the brakes, which keeps the trails more smooth than many other lift accessed riding. This also allows you to focus more on playing with the trail, popping off features and pushing into the golden dirt capped berms.
To match the immense views of mountain ranges in every direction, Discovery Bike Park fits the backcountry experience. There isn't a full-service lodge with hotels at the base, instead, you drive a dirt road that circumnavigates the base of the hill away from any main highway or development and park in a grass lot along a stream. It's quite possibly one of the best places to pop up the camp bbq, cook a dog and have a cold one in between laps or at the end of the day.
If you were looking for your next summer adventure, or already have one planned in Montana, make sure to add Discovery to your list of stops, this is a true hidden gem.
