DonatingIt's been a short winter in British Columbia. Winter never came, spring is underway and there's lots of trailwork happening. Lucky enough to split our time between North Vancouver and Whistler, five organizations who do fantastic work in local areas where we ride the most get the membership dollars from my wife and I. This year we looked at donating through Trailforks which turns out to be ridiculously easy. As a test case
MTBTrails (publishers of the
Locals' Guide to Fraser Valley Rides) and I wanted to make a largish donation to the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association to help out with the signature Squidline trails.
In a nice display of the power of Trailforks, the FVMBA wants to broadcast this method of donating and is matching our donation dollar for dollar from their general trail fund to dedicate dollars to do work on Squidline. They will be seeking support from local businesses to then back this work.
First pick a region
You can even pick a trail to earmark for donations or you can just say you want the money to go to the association. The FVMBA does not have to earmark donated funds to the trail, but it can be a clear expression of your interest.
Paypal screen pops up and your donation is logged.
Worthy Sea to Sky trail organizationsIf you live in a place where you have a trail organization advocating for bike trails and for your interest, skip buying your latest endurobro goggles, open your wallet and make a donation. Locally for us there are tons of natural trail systems near where we live. These are worthwhile organizations to support. Chime in the comments to give a shout out to your local organization.
Squamish -
SORCA. I checked in with SORCA and a portion of donations via website go to insurance. Donate via
Trailforks if you want 100% to go to the association.
Whistler -
WORCA. WORCA is slow to answer emails via info@worca.com so don't take it personally if they don't get back to you. You can donate via
Trailforks and they will get the donation.
Somewhere on the North Shore
HighLine in Whistler South
Pemberton -
PVTA. PVTA memberships are the bargain of the Sea-to-Sky so there's no excuse for the thousands of Whistler and other bros flocking to Pemby trails in the early season not to get a membership. 100% of donations via
Trailforks or via their website go to the association.
Fraser Valley -
FVMBA. This operates in the same way as most other associations; a portion of donations via website goes to insurance. Donate via
Trailforks if you want 100% to go to the association. Become a member if you want the benefits of membership (
group ride, voting rights, twoonie races, etc.)
Tri-cities area (Burke, Eagle, Belcarra) -
TORCA. This operates in the same way as most other associations; a portion of donations via website goes to insurance. Donate via
Trailforks if you want 100% to go to the association. Become a member if you want the benefits of membership (
group ride, voting rights, twoonie races, etc.)
North Shore -
NSMBA. Trailforks. Website. This operates in the same way as most other associations; a portion of donations via website goes to insurance. Donate via
Trailforks if you want 100% to go to the association. Become a member if you want the benefits of membership (
group ride, voting rights, twoonie races, etc). In this case I have a keen interest in monitoring the governance of the NSMBA and the way in which they are run. Since we both wanted a voice in this we became members.
One Mile in Pemberton
Alice Lake in Squamish. Blackcomb Peak on that very same day.
If you have a local trail organization who would like the support of its riders, do not hesitate to chime in on the comments.
