MTBco Gillard Trail Day

Sep 9, 2008
by Mr. Gnar
MTBco members completed maintenance work on Gillard, cleared most of the 2007 blowdown, and removed tons of garbage in 2008. At last, and after tremendous effort to get insurance in place, we are proud to announce to you MTBco's first, official, fully sanctioned, rain-or-shine, come-hell-or-high-water.....

Schedule:

Volunteers will need to sign a waiver. The club pays $27 for your annual insurance cover so any (optional) donations will offset expenses and helps club money go further. The waiver covers damage/injury you could cause to others. Only persons who sign waivers can take part. Ryan McKenna (MTBco Gillard Area Trail Director) will orientate volunteers, splitting people into teams and allocating duties - depending on tools available, skills/experience levels, and the time you have available. Qualified first aiders will be on site and each team will have a leader and a buddy system. Age restriction is a minimum of 14 years (or if younger, accompanied by a parent or guardian). You should be physically active, but no prior experience of trail building/trail management is required - we'll make sure you are partnered with a work crew who can make good use of your time.

Priority tasks:

Tree blowdown & debris clearance
Berm building
General buff and fluff of trails
Stunt repair
Installation of drainage
Cut back undergrowth, face slappers, snags, rootstumps, etc.

Things you can bring/contribute:

Your valuable time – this is the most important thing!!!
Tools - general trails tools such as rakes, shovels, woodwork hammers, pick axe/mattock, tool belt, sharp bush knife, etc
Work gloves
Nails - high quality spiral 3.5" up to 10" nails
Backpack - with water, energy drinks, snack bars, and a cellphone for emergency contact
Truck - volunteers who can shuttle people around Gillard during the trail day
Worksite/construction job site experience

There will also be a BBQ (by donation) and social at 3.00 pm at the shuttle parking lot.

This has been a long time coming, so now the local bike park is closed for the season, let's use this opportunity to give back to the trails you all love. Come on guys and girls, let’s represent big style, and make a show of just how much trail love we have for Gillard!

See you there...oh and we have another surprise - we'll be introducing the Gillard "Adopt a Trail" program.
