PRESS RELEASE: Coeur d'Alene EnduroAs Coeur d'Alene Enduro continues its efforts toward delivering an epic race experience, we've been working tirelessly to build and maintain trails, line up support from local and national sponsors, and create anticipation for the first ever enduro mountain bike race in our beautiful town.
Since joining forces with the United States Forest Service, we've hosted several work parties that have made huge improvements in the sustainability of our local trail system, Canfield Mountain. We've been amazed and gratified by the amount of support we've received from the mountain bike community, our fellow area bike shops, and the partners who have been instrumental in many of our cycling events in the past. Local sponsors Physio One, Mountain West Bank, Mountain Cafe and Catering, and Coyle & Wytychak Law have all helped fund the tools we use for trail work, and have even put shovels in the ground themselves!
Shimano North America has signed on as our title sponsor, and they will be providing mechanical support during the race weekend as well as an array of prizes, such as the all-new Shimano XT Quad Piston Brakes, and other components designed to hold up to the high-performance demands of enduro racers.
Canfield Mountain is only a few miles from the center of Coeur d'Alene, but riding the trails feels like a backcountry adventure. Racers can expect around 6000' of descending over the race weekend, sampling the best of inland northwest singletrack.
A camp-style dinner for the racers, volunteers, and sponsors will be made on-site by Mountain Cafe and Catering, as owner and avid rider Matt Lazarus joins the fun to man the barbecue on Saturday night. After the feast, we'll have a bonfire with beverages, and general shenanigans to get everyone fired up for Day 2.
Between now and race day, we'll keep moving forward with our trail advocacy and community involvement.
The race is scheduled for July 7th and 8th in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Be sure to register at
http://www.cdaenduro.com as registration is limited to 200 racers! Maintain the stoke!
We can't thank all of our sponsors that have dedicated time, money, and hard work in order to make this race possible! Thank you all!
The positive side is that hopefully, people are getting organized and building some actual MTB trails, rather than just using the Moto trails, that really belong to the Moto riders that maintain Canfield mountain. And I hope we aren't trying to poach the trails that the Moto guys built and maintain, that's not cool either. How would MTB riders feel if trails they built and maintained were designated as hiking-only trails..... Hopefully, I'm wrong on all accounts.
Congrats on the endeavor, and best of luck!
Also, I see people in the photos that are part of at least two local bike shops. They are organizing, and working on improving the trails with the support of the Forest Service and the local dirt bike trail association. It seems mean spirited and close-minded do not support this group building trail right in your backyard. Beacon is great, but there is a whole lot of fantastic riding in our area. Canfield is a trail system that everyone should check out.
I'm glad people are getting organized and working on the trails. And again, I wish you guys all the best.
Please be nice to people on a personal level even though you disagree with them on an opinion level. I actually did try to delete the reply and my account after I posted my comment, but pinkbike won't allow you delete replies or your account (you can only delete comments). I was afraid that people would react this way, which is kind of disappointing. It would be nice if instead of lashing out at someone who says something negative, we just respect their opinion and moved on, or just agreed to disagree. My comment was provocative, but we all have our own agency and freedom to choose how we react to others opinions.
I'm pretty sure you are all really nice people, so please be nice online too.
All the best.
You can't just come in here and insult the trail, the trailbuilders, the event organizers, and CDA in general just because you don't know what you are doing. And do it all on a fake account? You need to be called out on it.
BUT! - if you have even a glimpse of how incredibly awesome Canfield Mountain is, you need to come back here and apologize to everyone for unnecessarily trying to undermine what Alex and the crew are doing. I won't make you sign up for the Enduro, but I am sure you will want to after the ride because it really is that good of a trail system.
Alright, now that that's over with, what trails should I ride?
Again, I'm not attacking anyone personally, I respect your opinion, I just have a different one.
I really want to go ride the trails you guys have been working on, and then hopefully eat crow. That would be great. It would be nice to have some really good trails nearby. But, If you don't tell me which trails to ride, its kind of like saying you really haven't been working on much up there.
So, what trails have you been working on? I will go ride some of them this week. Give me the top two or three you've been working on, that should be pretty manageable for me to ride in the next couple of days.
Take care.
The trail association has been around awhile now and has quietly been working away at providing trail maintenance throughout the CDA River Ranger District. As for which trails have been worked on...A from Penn to Cave.
