 You'll need that fork to be mint for highland! Good thing you looked at it now and didn't leave it. That marking could just be from how the stanchion is produced if the seals all look to be okay. Just keep an eye on it over the next few rides

 Yeah it really isn't a bad mark, but don't want it to get worse. Everything looks good to me...bushings don't look worn out..seals are fine..... Hoping it was just some dirt or a small piece of rock stuck in there.

 Yup! You did the right thing by ripping it apart. Better to be safe than sorry as a new stanchion runs like $300 each Eek atleast it's all okay now and ready to be ridden again

 Yep its back together now and feels good, ill keep an eye on it over the next bunch of rides and hopefully its ok.

 i'd be having a coversation with the maufacture, doesnt appear to be wear from dust, dirt ir anything og this nature, to me it looks like a defective coating or piir tolerance and oil starvation

 I just did this a few weeks ago.
Do you use Rockshox oil or an aftermarket one?

 haven't put it back together yet, but got some fork oil from a buddy at work, not sure if its too heavy a weight though.
