I was like that when I just started riding. But after some serious injuries I learned that parts can be replaced, but you only have 1 body, so screw your bike and safe yourself. Even with less serious injuries: I'd rather prevent myself from breaking my foot and being out for 3-6 weeks than preventing my brand new handlebars from bending and being out for 2 days until I ordered some new ones.
I can't say I ever actually thought about saving my bike first over getting injured when I knew I was gonna crash...
I do often jump up and check it though after the rare crash (trying hard not to jinx myself).
***** I will say though, it bugs the crap outta me when my bike get damaged from something stupid like, tipped over onto a rock when we're taking a break or worse at home when you're just messing around with the bike.
one of my kids, who was only about 3 at the time, tipped one of my road bikes over when I had it inside the house. tipped it over and put a nice sized dent on the top tube... even though the bike was brand new, I sold the bike "used" the following day.
Duck da bike. Every time I crash, that's all the more reason for me to hate the V10. I have a strict rule, crash 10 and she's out the door. Bloody made in Taiwan frames. The V10's starting to pass its Asian heritage into me. I don't want a consirningly smart and stricky baby. Wife would kill me. Save me, get me a Session. I need beautiful Murican blood in my gens. PS, do you stock Sessions?
