 Yes, you are right. You just need to change the axle.

 do you know how to get the cassette part off the hub shell on these hubs?

 You need an 8 or 10mm hex key i think. It's easier to remove it if your hub is laced in a rim, so that you'll have a bigger arm of force while rotating the bolt.
