a hot rod is an old car. the term rat rod is derived from hot rod as a ratty low buck hot rod. saying this is a rat rod would be like calling a mint supra a hot rod.

Rat rodding a vehicle can be done to any car. dont correct me, I know my "tuner" shit to, tuners can be domestic or import if thats the word you were looking for. dont start that crap.
  • 4 3
No because where do you think they get the term "rod" from hot rod dude this aint no rat rod, its a busted up tuner car....
  • 3 1
VW's are built like Rat Rods all the time, and called rat rods to... And they purposely did it to this car, the technical name is bozosuku or something along those lines.
  • 5 4
I think your high thats not a word
  • 2 3
thats not rat rodding, its just putting money onto a car meaning to make it look like shit, rat rods have to be totaly butured, there the frankensstien of cars, the really vw ratrod are made of usualy the 60's beetle where the most often slam it and cut the fenders of, if what your(psptpdkm) refering to is the rusted hood and shit that those idiots buy to make there car look "dope" then your brain shold be medically examended for tumors.

i agree with IAMTHATGUY the term rat rod refers to the Frankenstein style of work that goes into a rat rod, the person building it usely picks a mish mash of parts some new some old. it is all about what they like, can affrod and what they can find usely the older the item, the more history the better. they may call a VW a rat rod or as someone up top said " built like a rat rod" keyword there is like but not a real rat rod! because like others have said the name rat rod came from hot rod as a ratty low buck hot rod build, for example thats a ratty rod became thats a rat rod. i have seen lots and known a few rat rodders over the years they would be insulted by you brainless idiots calling this peice of crap foreign car a RAT ROD. at the most its a work in progress import tuner

Compromise, and called it a Jap Rod?
  • 2 1
i can compromise we can just say the comment pS-P-TO-D-Km made is crap. cause if it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck, then it must be a duck. crap like his spacific comment comes from idiot's that are trying show off with little success. at 25 i have spent a lot of time at hotrod shows, car shows and in any garage i can, looking at cars and learning every thing i can. and i've been around every thing from a 1925 ford model t, to a fully custom kenworth logging rig, i like cars but dont make ignorant comments like he did in public. if you want to say something like he did, know what you are talking about, not just think you know what your talking about. cause if you make ignorant comments openly online then should expect to get called on your ignorance. people like him just say things to sound cool but have no idea how ignorant it makes them look to talk about a subject they are not truly familiar with

Trololol gtfo out of here clown, you put way to much time into that comment when you could have just said "hey I'm ignorant"
Rat Rodding is style, it can be done to any domestic and non domestic car. Yes, the grandfathers are the socal ratrod scene of the early 20's domestic cars. I grew up with all of that and Semi Trucks and the logging rigs, while most kids were doing they're ABC's my dad was having me help him put the Diesel motors and the cat trans back together. I don't see how my comment was in anyway shape or form ignorant. By the way, its "Specific" so don't come at my intelligence level if your going to mis spell things. At 18 I've probably done a whole lot more productive things in automotive scenes than you have going to "hotrod" shows, all that show n shine's and hotrod shows seem to be this days are just cock measuring championships, congrats you have officially put the most billet on your car, here's an award. I prefer the function over form of racing and working on logging trucks like my father and my fathers father did. I could give 2 shits about your "internet" opinion, if you want to continue this PM me, I have no problem defending my ideals and my history.

Thanks.

because you use a word that describes something spacific to describe something else that has nothing at all to do with it, that makes you ignorant. the use of a word just beacuse you think you like the meaning or cause it might seem cool to do so. just because you think it is a ratrod does not mean that thats what it is. if you took that car to a show like good guys and called it a ratrod they would laugh at you
  • 1 1
of course they would, its bosozuku, japrod not american rat rod. Its still in a ratrod fashion, thats not my opinion thats a fact. I've been to good guys and seen lots of 510's and 630(Datsuns assuming that you have no idea who makes those) trucks that were rat rodded out and that did well, the fact that you have such a closed mind would make legends such as boyd coddington turn in his grave. Its about accepting all styles of personality and design. So do the world a favor and take your OPINION elsewhere.
