 the chainguide is like that because there is a pulley mounted to the linkage plate at the main pivot. It is to help eliminate chain growth through the travel and keeps the chain parallel to the chainstay.... its a single pivot... it works great u can use smaller rings which gives you greater ground clearance...that is why this dewd has no bashguard.

 I have one of these too.......these are the sweetest bikes to ride! Dont think i will ever change.......mabey a 951!!

 Actully. The Appalache company bought up Balfa few years ago. Its a balfa bb7 with a diffirent name but same design (little diffirent)

 Hummm not really. The appalache was made by former Balfa peep. Balfa brand was killed while back by Procycle.
