Talk me through where the landing is on this, Pete... Is it just one long downslope? (Excuse my ignorance - the tree branch is obscuring stuff!)
Was thinking about hitting the Ercall again sometime soon - think you've just made the decision for me!

Yeah, it's basically one giant downslope. You can either drop from where Reuben is in this picture to just above where the small pile of leaves are, that'd be a drop twice the size of Reuben below him (Reuben being from the tip of his helmet, to the bottom of his tyre).

And then from then on it gets bigger and bigger depending on your takeoff speed and if you boost off.

The drop is to your right literally just after you land the ski jump. There's a verge to the left of it that you can push up to get atop of it.

I'm hoping to be up there this coming Sunday. Need to work on getting drop confidence again... lol

I thought drops were your thing... Bad experience sometime? Looks cool though, but then I do have a bit more suspension than you!

Can't really say I know where the ski jump is, sorry. Only been up there once back in March/April. I take it you've ridden the tracks up on the Wrekin itself? Nice drop at the bottom there.

Bad experience, yeah. They were my thing but when I cut off the end of my finger I couldn't use my front brake and I kept overshooting things because of it. It was the ladder drop at the bottom of the wrekin that got me the most, though. Landed right on my finger, lol.

You don't need 10 inches of travel for the riding around here! My lightweight freeride bike is more than enough. I just need a lower seat so I can let my legs do some of the hit absorbing..

The run up for that jump is a small drop into a long stretch, and the jump itself is a steep kicker, right? If so I think that's you doing the ski jump.

It's just you're landing on the top, if you pin it after hitting the drop at the start you can land it to the landing, or to flat!

Lol, I agree that there are very few occasions on which 10" of travel is ACTUALLY needed, but I'm not gonna say 'no' if it's free, right!?

I've seen the pics of your Reign - very nice! I have the same issue with mine that I just can't get the seat down low enough for some things (I understand this sounds fairly lame) so if I ever race on it I use a super short seatpost, but I can't be arsed to lug that around just for the odd drop or super-steep bit.

Ok I know where the jump is afterall - and just to clarify - I WAS clearing it thank-you very much (not to flat tho - I'd be impressed if you're getting that!).

Hope the finger's well and good now - hardly sounds ideal when you can't use the front brake!

I wouldn't say no to a free V10 frame, so no. But there's a long list of frames that I would say no to, free or not. I've got a Gravity dropper on the way, that'll solve the seatpost issue. As well as I'll cut my Thomson down uber short for when I plan to only push up and get a lift to the destination. Lol, I just assumed that as the description of the photo was 'stepping up', that you were landing flat atop of the landing. To flat past the landing hurts, but when I do it to landing I often have to drop the bike in its place a little to stop overshooting it to flat. The finger is good enough. It's a little sensitive and not quite as strong. But I have a Shimano Saint M810 brake to sort the power loss out for me.

awesome, how big as i really wanna hit something
  • 10
As big as it looks. Git up tha Ercall and I can show you how big, but I doubt you'll be hitting this, I didn't check it up there but it's fairly large. ...I need that gravity droppah so I can slice my Thomson reeet down and allow myself some huck room for this stuff. I keep having to go right back and butt scrape the tire to take in the hits...
