Trek has been making one of these for a few months now and it comes like this completely stock. Weighs in at 10.3 lbs and only costs about $3200, plus it's all black.
Trek doesn't have custom geometry like IF does. Even with the customization you get with project one and trek its not on the same level as IF and you're not buying an IF because of the warranty. My shop sells both IF and Trek, both are great companies, but to suggest the products are similar is ridiculous.
Ok sure, the basic ideas behind the bikes is the same, but what goes into an IF and what goes into a production Trek is completely different. You give IF every measurement, color, decal, paint scheme and anything else you want, trek you choose the size and wait for the box. They're in completely different leagues.
I'm still going to disagree with you. At the end of the day they're both just belt drive single speed bikes, and Trek's is going to cost less and bear a lifetime warranty. Not saying the IF isn't cool.
Alright I'll concede that they're both the same kind of bike. I guess just having been through the process of selling/filling out production information for an IF gives me a different perspective. To me an IF is more than a bike as lame as that sounds, it's something built from the ground up for you, to have forever. No doubt the trek is a cheaper alternative if you're just looking for the carbon belt drive aspect and carries a better warranty, but if you're considering the IF for any reason beyond the fact that it has 2 wheels and rolls there's no reason to look at trek. But yeah, you're right, same kind of bike.
