I've often wondered myself, but the cops never stopped me.... so I guess its fine. went through many of roadblocks and have been stopped for speeding, but no comment on the bike rack in front.

Keeps the bike cleaner than in the back, I find. Also I look to look at my bike on the way to the trails ;-)
